Im a sucker for old school cool, and Griffin & Howe are to me the equivalent of Holland & Holland, or the other great British gunsmiths.

I've been caretaker of a post WWI sporterized Springfield 03 that has a Lyman receiver sight, sporter contoured barrel, and civilian sporter style stock.

The only thing missing is a period scope base and mount. So, to G&H I went today.........

And I'll say this first, they's damn proud of their parts and gunsmith work.........

Even so, I'm beyond tempted to send my 03 for a side mounted base, 1 inch mount, and G&H butt pad. But damn, it'll cost me nearly a month's pay......

If it ain't too much of a drive for you, come to the southern SXS show at deep river clays next April. Plenty of examples of G&H guns there to fondle. This was my first year going and I got to meet their shop manager and a few other guys.

If you are not dead set on having G&H do the work, look up the American Custom Gunmaker Guild and you can find someone their that can help you get what you want. I dont know if it will be cheaper but give them a try.
