Gun Control proponents are now trying to buy Guns & ammo anticipating "The Sh* Hitting the Fan"

Also, I'll be the jerk and say - when this is over it might be an opportunity to get some stuff barely (if at all) used for very cheap.
Might have folks that buy and then never touch it, this ends and they think, "I dont want/need this" and want to get out of it quickly.
Sorry, but Im not above getting a good deal on something

My thoughts mirror @georgel, These kind of people just don't turn into gun people, or even gun supporters.

-They're not buying AR15's. Those are for the military and police and they're a wildly uncontrollable gun only to be used by professionals.
-Fairly safe bet that they'll get a revolver, a standard plastic..most likely a Glock, because you know, Glock..they've heard of that one, or a shotgun that looks like the one dad had.
-It's totally a fire extinguisher. They won't touch that thing until they think they need to and just like the fire extinguisher they won't know how to use it. That's ok though, if you just say 'I have a gun' the bad guy will go away.
-The wife still doesn't like the idea. Violence never solves anything.
-This is not the same as you owning a gun. They're far more sound people than you are, and a much more responsible person to make such a drastic decision as owning a gun.
-They're ok with gun free zones. Sounds legit.
-If Feinstein told them to turn them all in, they would.

Remember, these are the same people with the daily attention span of a gnat. A fish that at any point in time has numerous lures in their mouth already and waiting for a new one today. I wouldn't be so quick to count them in your voting-bloc egg basket.

Not a jerk at all. When, and I do think when this blows over, there will be a lot of firearms and ammo for CHEAP. Hell, I picked up an easily $600 rifle today for a third of that because someone "needed" to get some .223 ammo. It is all part of the supply and demand.

Happened a ton after the Sandy Hook panic etc

Yes and no.
My friend's parents bought a gun last week (well, maybe 10 days or so now).
M&P, 9mm...sorry, I dont know all the gun types.

Anyway, they've never held anything other than a shotgun before, and even that was limited.
While Ive not personally spoken with them since the buy, I was with their son and he was texting as I had questions etc
They bought a light/laser combo for it, a few boxes of ammo.
I offered them to go to PHA to practice, but we've not set anything up since then (last Saturday or Sunday).

They're bright folks, just lean left on stuff.
Mother is a nurse, father owns a distribution business of some type.
Nice folks, kind folks, but never been into guns.

Im hoping to take them shooting sometime and maybe it gets more folks like them understanding that while these are deadly weapons [dont kid yourselves, they can kill], they're also just tools and it's up to the possessor/user how they'll be used. Hopefully they'll wake up (making broad brush statement here) to the idea that gun owners arent the dangerous folks that maybe the media has depicted

Funny, a very peaceful lady (retired school teacher in Richmond...who has finally started to see someone)....asked about owning a gun. I have tried so many times over the years to get her started. She has some Quaker blood. Her daughter was married, twice, in a small church in a Quaker ceremony. If you have never been to one....it is an experience. OPPS....the first husband turned out to have severe mental issues. He can't work. He did recreational Rx.....the list goes on. He has been in fights (small guy....doesn't drink) in bars and hit cars and such.

I packed a 9mm with a spare clip at that wedding and reception. If there was a Quaker GOD....I would be dead. I FINALLY fessed up to her mom and dad (divorced) that I did it for her protection as well as mine and DW. She almost cried.....for joy. She said that SHE wanted some "armed folks"....but no one would listen to her. BUT....she did not and never WOULD see the need for owning a gun....she had her pepper spray and whatever and passed all the "classes".

OPPS.....just last week. Her new (I HOPE) Squeeze says she needs a gun. We talked. My advice...

Get her CCW for three reasons FIRST.

She gets to learn from a professional about the responsibilites of carrying or having a weapon.
She gets to see the demographics of those in the class.
She gets to have some real firing experience.

I also told her to let her new BF take her to a range. Shoot a 22. Rent or borrow something like a Ruger SP101. She needs the safety of a revolver as a Glock or others would be too complicated. WHEN she has had range time and knows what she wants and has her CCW....THEN buy one. I also suggested adding a grip or auto operated Laser Sight. I have my daughter an SP101 with a CT Grip Activated Laser and she feels comfortable.

That would be my advice. Go to the range and shoot their new addition. Take the local CCW course....don't be stupid and put it in the car....folks go to jail over that.....Learn their responsibility......Learn to shoot from an expert. THEN, they are better prepared....

I've known the guy for a while and we all think he's off, just a bit, but one of my co-workers is a flaming Bernie Bro. I think that's evidence enough, but wait, there's more.

He ordered a gun. It's chambered in 9x18. He says he wanted it because it's an oddball caliber and when "we" run out of ammo, he'll still have plenty.

I think that a lot of these buyers ARE going to be the foul-weather type, who don't really change any positions and sell off the nasty thing as quickly as they can. But I think there are ALSO going to be a lot of people who just hadn't given it a lot of thought and had bought the media BS about how easy it is to buy a gun, and how AR-15's are "fully semi automatic" and "fire 100 clips at a time", and they're going to realize they've been swallowing lies for years.

Some of each. I'll take those who are willing to open their eyes.

I fear for their own safety and those around them due to lack of safety training and for everyone else's safety, because we are not dealing with rational sane people. And they are more likely to use a gun for the wrong reasons at the wrong time, getting people shot. Their perspective on guns is from the movies.
Overall, still a good thing, especially if some are responsible and seek training on skills and appropriate use, but in the current climate that may take a while.

THIS is my biggest fear with the "new" gun owners..... And of course it will ALL be the guns fault....

Thinking the same here.

He's right. Lots of 9x18 and 380 out there. 9x19? Forget about it.

He is...now...but generally people with his background aren't stacking it deep. If the big igloo kicks off his resupply is gone...where 9x19, 12g, 5.56 is carried by most all leos, mil, and other gun owner out there.

Are you saying one has to know where the mobile re-supply points are?

His scenario is much more plausible. Intermediate panics followed by restocking. I know we all like to be ready for TEOTWAWKI but the guy with the .380 isnt far off from reality.

Ive still got a platoons worth of guns, 25K of rounds, iodine pills and enough rice to feed a Chinese village for a month just in case.

I dont totally disagree, but plausibility is quite fluid these days...a month ago it was completely implausible that toilet paper would be rare and schools would be closed for months.
