Gun mounted shell holder

Only keep buckshot in my HD shotgun. While hunting have loads for that game. If I'm going to shot a single projo, I prefer a rifle.

At HD ranges inside the house, buck is what I want for hips & knees...

For those who use the Velcro and cards? What's your preferred brand and source? I have an 1100 Competition Master with that setup but I traded for it that way. The brand on it is no longer made apparently.

I actually ordered some today. Went with Esstac.

Opted for that method due to some of the comments here and the ability to cut a small section out so SN is visible to match to Form 1s if necessary. And that should also let me get 6 on the 20ga instead of 4.

If I were starting over, I would go with the Velcro shotshell cards and have a strip of velcro on the receiver as well as the butt stock with different colors of cards based on the loads.

Glad I saw this thread. I am considering switching from velcro shot cards to the Mesa Tactical (if it will fit) polymer version. The velcro on the receiver peels in a relatively short time (for me) and I would welcome a more solid system. My belt has a strip of velcro and a card also rides there, perhaps I could have the best of both worlds.

@NCMedic: What don't you like about the Mesa system that a velcro system would solve for you? If it is being able to slap another card on after you run dry, then I think I will go Mesa for mine as it is for HD.

Got to looking at the two shotguns today and realized I’ll have an issue. The 20ga forend comes way too far back for any style to work on the side of the receiver.

Anything wrong with cutting the forend to look more like the one on the 12ga?

Thanks to @rantingredneck and his magical abilities with plastic, this issue has been corrected. :D

Now to get the Velcro installed...

And FWIW, reassembling an 870 is the most frustrating thing I’ve done firearm related in years. It shouldn’t be a problem, but it drove me nuts both times I’ve tried it in the last week. Specifically getting the forend rails with the bolt and carrier back into the receiver. Every video I watched made it seem so simple.

Got the Velcro trimmed to fit the receiver lines. Since these are NFA I went ahead and cut out a section so the SN is visible, and also punched a hole for the pin.

I’ve gone from capacities of 5 & 6 to 12 & 12. Just need to buy some more 20ga buck.

Got a problem here. One of these shotguns is in a closet in the bonus room, which is the warmest room in the house. I opened the door a couple weeks ago and found the loaded shell carrier on the floor. Stuck it back on, set some weight on it for a day, and then put the shotgun back in it’s place. Went to look today and the carrier is off again.

Not an issue with the surface not being prepped, as all the glue stayed on the receiver. Any product suggestions to attach this velcro back to the gun without it coming off as easy?

I would like it to come off in the future, but only when I purposefully remove it.

JB Weld and rivets. :D

Or... You might want to try e6000.
