I just picked up my first safe and have been wondering if there are any mods you guys have done outside of the normal stuff?

I’m planning on putting some lights in and have made some of the gun rods with Velcro to stand my long guns up to save room.

I’d like to have the door make a sound when opening like air is being released. Kind of like its pressurized. Every time I open the door I go “sshhhh” just for fun. Anyway just looking for cool ideas y’all might have.

I use a 50-cal ammo can as a "go-box"
It sits in the bottom of my safe with important docs, some money, jewelry, stuff like that. If I had to evacuate what would I want to never leave behind?

I do also have a few more small document folders that I want inside the fire protection of the gun safe but "household" stuff like silver, etc goes in another, less expensive, safe.

Have a golden rod, never installed it. Need to get a power strip near the safe.

Only mod - I put a $2 LED light with a flip switch from HF in mine. Just sticks right to the carpet on the inside and brightens things up real nice.

I mounted one of these with some led strips so when the door opens, the light comes on. Close the door and the light goes off.

I tried two different sensors with mine. A motion detector and an infrared. Both functioned just fine, but they had a current draw all the time. That didn’t work for me because I’m using a battery back for power.

I’d think a switch like that would work, right? No reason it would use power in the off position?

I used some metal strips to mount a bunch of holsters to the door to put pistols in . used holsters from my junk box and cruised gun shops for old or cheap holsters just for this purpose

@BigWaylon

To my knowledge, there is zero current draw. This kind of switch would be mounted into the door frame of a bedroom closet, so when you open the door, the light comes on. I’m assuming zero current draw since this is supposed to be wired into a house. I used a piece of wood to space it out in the bottom corner of the hinge side.

As you know, the back of the door protrudes into the safe. Mine is set up to hit the side of the protrusion.

When I first got mine my wife suggested putting some “household” stuff in it. You might as well designate a space for that now.
After I purchased my safe, we closed out our safe deposit box at the credit union, saves me $65 a year.

have not opened in a while but my cannon talls do make this type of noise or a whistle when operating the door.
first mod was 3/4" plywood for shelves, the carpet/chipboard were sagging on their own weight.. no carpet, just coated a surfaces of board with polyurethane.
