Any recommendations? I am going to get a basic BCM A2X I want pinned on a 14.5" barrel. Obviously, I'd like it done correctly, so timed, pinned, welded, cleaned, then alum-black over the spot. Who do you all know that does a good job and won't charge and arm and a leg?

I’ll tell ya, being the shooting Mecca that this area is, there are a surprising lack of good gunsmiths around. They seem scarce!

Joel Pendergraft in chapel hill is awesome, but not sure if he would do this, but maybe give him a jingle. Not the cheapest, but whatever he does, he does right.

I would check with Maverick gun works in mebane. I think he does pin/weld jobs and does cerakote or subs it out.
I would be VERY specific about your expectations.
The owner told me he has a full service machine shop in the rear of the store.

He was quite high on barrel threading prices, so he may quote you a price that you could best, shipping included.

Lots of good choices if shipping is an option.

Yea I was reading about ADCO pricing but the biggest problem is 2 way shipping. I have used them before and they are good, no doubt. Their listing says they'd only charge $30 for an A2X. Not sure why it is so cheap and then for like a Surefire they charge $85. I guess I can send the barrel to them off the upper to minimize the shipping costs. The other thing is that on their website in the pics it shows their work, and they def don't alum black over it. I know some people say not to so you can see the pinning to prove it was done. To me that's bullshit if you have the receipt and if the inspector or LEO tried to twist it off and it didn't move.

ADCO definitely does top notch work.
With them, you pay first, then they authorize shipping.
Turnaround is amazingly fast though.
I'd check prices locally, then let economics decide.

If you are good with a welder and drill press it's certainly not hard.

I've never heard of a inspector or leo trying to remove a MD because they though the person was breaking the law, then again I never had a 14.5 either.

Like DJ said it is easy. I do my own and occasionally for a friend. Measure the thickness of the barrel wall. Divide the barrel wall tjickness in half and you have your depth to drill. I drill the flashider first and then counter sink it for the weld so it will be flush or close to it after welding. I drill the barrel. Screw on the flash hider and remove drill bit from drill press then insert drill bit smooth end first thru the flash hider and into the barrel. Tap the drill bit with a hammer 1 time to ensure it is seated and cut it off flush with the flash hider. Simply weld it in place and do any clean up with with emery cloth if need be and color to match. It takes about 20 minutes if you take your time.
