Watched this yesterday on DVD (I know a guy)
...WOW

I didnt know this guy's (Doss) story before this.

A pacifist that wanted to do his bit during W W 2 as a combat medic.
Mel Gibson directed it
Its brutal, its a great story.

I highly recommend it!

Glad to know it's out. I saw it on a theatre. Heck of a story. One hell of a life.

slow down, I KNOW A GUY
Im not sure if its out on DVD or not.

I watched it last night. Well done movie. Great story.

I didn't like it. The first half was preachy and they ALWAYS try too hard with fake southern accents. I didn't make it to the "war" portion of the movie....turned it off after the "just in the nick of time" trial resolution.

i watched in in the theatre , awesome special effects and if it was all true, the guy was a real hero

I would say some of the major facts, like number of lives saved, etc, are probably accurate and easily verified but the presentation of the movie wrecked it for me.

From what I have read they actually had to chill out on some of the heroics because it would have seemed too unbelievable....but they really happened.

As far as his voice and accent, if you watch videos of the real Desmond Doss, he had a very strong accent. As far as being preachy? Well, that was kinda the point...he was a conscientious objector due to his faith. His faith was the point.

The last minute nick of time thing was Hollywood though as the real trial wasn't quite as dramatic.

Posted a link above that says pretty much that exactly, that some of the stuff was so crazy they thought that the audiences woudnt buy into it.

I'd love to read the book, get more insight on what all he did.
Either way, the man was a hero and it was good to see that he stood for what he believed throughout all of the harassment (noted that apparently he was never beaten like the movie portrays)

DVD release sate 2/21, but can be found already. I see Amazon is streaming it.

I couldn't get to the theater to see it, but Ill will catch it in next couple weeks.

I didn't mean preachy in the sense that he was a 7th Day Adventist. And having a strong accent is one thing, but having a horribly put-on Southern accent is totally different. It's the cheesiest version of 1940 America that I've seen in a movie. Every character was a stereotype: The WW1 veteran dad, the Vince Vaughn drill sergeant....

I'm not disparaging his heroism. I'm not thrilled with Mel Gibson's portrayal of how Doss ended up in the Pacific.

I thought Vince Vaughn was terrible personally.

I haven't seen it but listened to something where they said it was horrible stereotypical. Said the New York's playing cards, southern with horrible accent and the guy from Texas holding a lasso when they introduced him. Is that right?

i really enjoyed this movie, but if you have a weak stomach, it might not be for you. some awesome special effects

My wife, son, and I justed watched it this evening. One hell of a movie if you ask me.

Just finished watching it on Kodi, excellent movie

I just saw the movie last night. I liked it, it was good, didn't think it was great. Glad I saw it, enjoyed it, probably will be fine if I don't see it again. It was one of the more graphic war movies though...the special effects and make up folks deserve an Oscar. The fact that it is a true story sets it apart, though. Doss was nothing if not convicted.

Finally got around to watching this tonight. Heckuva story...

...without a single reload (best I can remember).

And definitely brutal.

Bought it on DVD. You can call a pansie but I had tears in my eyes " let me get one more Lord"..... I loved this movie.

I can't figure out why they didn't send a few guys up to help him with all the bodies coming down.
