I was watching footage of someone driving through a city in South Africa. All looted stores, a literal wall of trash in the middle of the street and people scurrying about like they expected to get shot.

To be honest , we left within 1 week of transition, and then started in on training for fallujah depl 5 months later. After 2 weeks of leave, Haiti was in the rear view mirror.

My few observations, though: I will never forget the first meeting with the Brazilians though. They had different priorities. We briefed port/airport security, force protection and threats, with a focus on gangs and a few para-militaries. They briefed their surgeon was already testing the hookers, and the disease free ones would be allowed to “work” in an approved brothel 🙄. They were very interested in the coord Btwn the Fr forces and the Dom Rep for leave at one of their resorts. Handover at the unit level was much the same with US/ Canadian forces underwhelmed with the level of prep by the Brazilians. We walked away with a lot of doubts.

ETA: to be fair, we found out at the After Action at SouthCom that the 2 x Foreign Legion Companies in Gonaive had their own brothel too. A very well kept secret by the French.

That feels on point for Brazil.
 
several of our church members have been to Haiti on Mission trips.
the last time was before the Covid restrictions and none since then
because the situation on the ground is too dangerous.

What a coincidence this popped up on here, I’ve been eyeing this very close due to the fact that im headed to Labadee,Haiti via Royal Caribbean next week. First stop Labadee, second stop DR. Supposedly this is a private area and is safe for tourists. Any one with personal experiences of this area?Thoughts on situation?
 
I saw the pics as well, very eclectic mix of kit. And every dude seems to have exactly one magazine on him. Guess they have rules against reloading?

I hear "Giz"lainne Maxwell has a history of turning islands into resorts. Maybe we should turn her loose down there. I am sure she would be well received.

If a cruise line is involved, you're safe. As mentioned on the first page, where you stop will have a hell of a wall and armed guards. Cruise lines run every island they stop at.

Pretty much what I figured but as always head will be on a swivel. Never hurts to get second opinions.

was watching a story on this. Sec. of State Hillary made Haiti her project. After the earthquake down there she was able to raise a Billion dollars for them. Practically none of which actually went there.

When the coup happened the "President" was out of the country hiring mercenaries to deal with the "gangs". That was after he suspended elections.

But our honeymoon was in Punta Cana, DR. I believe it was $3000 back 15 years ago for airfare and the all inclusive resort for both of us. It was really fun. The afternoon thunderstorms were the best.

my wife always dreamed of getting married at a little spot in california, long before she moved to MI.
the little spot in CA only held about 30 people in the building...
so we wound up having a small family wedding in CA AND a large reception in MI for everybody else. double the planning!
we did everything on the cheap though, so it worked out
 
I hate it for the police. They have a very hard and dangerous job. And as I recall 3rd world cannibals are kinda how World War Z started. I am sure they are crapping kittens.
