I'm not a mechanic but find myself tinkering on stuff between the house and my friend's farm (old tractors, mowers, generators etc). I'm usually working out of my truck and not near a sink. In the past I carried a can of "grime boss" wipes in the truck but they dry out after 2-3 weeks during the summer. I do carry a roll of shop towels so my question is has anyone found anything that works well for taking off grease, dirt, oil without running water?

PS. For gas I really like "briggs and Stratton Gas off spray", it works well.

Hey Me. Thanks! Yes the HF nitrile gloves do hold up well. I stock up on them when they put out that one coupon and they're 5.99 a box. It's only 2-3 times a year. I do wear use them when I think of it ahead of time for the really bad stuff but normally its too late for the smaller stuff that just creeps up on ya.

Gasoline or turpentine both work well, but best if you put out your cigarette first.

Deb Stoko company in greensboro makes some good ones. Kresto or Solopol are two popular ones and I like it much better than gojo seems to clean better and better on hands. I have used gojo and the stoko brand products without water handy you just need a clean rag handy to wipe it off. Not perfect like having water with it but works pretty good and to me just as good as the wipes.

I don't know who actually makes but the over priced Snap-on brand hand cleaner is the schnizzle. Just wipe off with a rag if you don't have water.

One thing I have learned over the years is the next best thing to working with med gloves is to keep lotion on your hands before you get the dirty.. The grease and grime won't get sucked down into your pores if the are full of moisturizer and will wash off much better

I've been using GoJo for a very long time. No water necessary.

I got a package of yellow latex reusable gloves at home depot, thicker then the disposable gloves,
good for changing oil or cleaning parts that are coated in grease and oil.

Gosh nitrile gloves are so good. Yeah, they can get sweaty, but at the low cost, who cares? Or, sometimes, I'll take a pair off, 'hang' it off a clutch lever on a bike (keeps the glove open and lets air in), and then use again later after it dries off. I still wash my hands after using the gloves, but its just because I dont like how my hands feel after them, not due to dirt/grime.

I dont have any right now, but as others have said - gojo is great and available all over the place

One tip that I like...……..I always keep a bar of Lava soap close by to lightly scratch the bar to roll some of the soap underneath my nails when I'm gonna be in dirty or greasy conditions. Just leave the soap under your nails and it helps with the clean-up afterwards.

Ahh thanks for the tip. yes I have lava bars all over. Walmart had it for $0.25 a bar on clearance a few years back and I bought a case. They're normally $1.97 a bar. Its good stuff

I use this stuff for when I come to the conclusion, "why didn't I put gloves on?!?". Works great, little pieces of walnut shell clean the nooks and cranny's. I usually pick it up at Northern Tool.
