I’m 19 and recently picked my my purchase permit and have been looking for private sellers but it’s proving extremely difficult. Cant buy from a lot of popular sites or even non licensed sellers at shows.

I’m wondering if this site requires FFL transfers or anything or if I could buy with a purchase permit while under 21.

If not, does anyone know a safe place I can legally buy at?

Also why can you only buy from a private seller until 21 even with a permit? Wouldn’t it be safer if it were the opposite?

People around here want to get to know you before they start to deal with new people.
Don't take it personal, it's just the way it is now days working with new people.

Welcome to CFF, We are so much more than just a firearms forum.

This site doesn’t require FFL transfers, because this site doesn’t sell firearms. 😉

You’ll find a majority of people here don’t want to add anything to the law that isn’t already there. The list of extras would include keeping copies of PPPs, taking pics of DLs, completing a BoS…and refusing to sell to an 18-20 year old that has a valid PPP.

There are a lot of members that would be hesitant to sell to a newbie, but you gotta start somewhere. Be willing to travel, don’t add any last minute requirements, and have your valid ID and PPP available to show.

I’ll also tell you a lot of members here only deal with Supporting Members. And we have a Classified section behind the wall. So join into some discussions, be a part of the family…and if you think it’s worth your time, click the Account Upgrades button. I’m sure you can find a deal with somebody here.

That makes sense, I expected the hesitation haha but I’ll see what I can do. Do you need to have a supporting member or any other upgrade to trade or buy from others in the forum?

Nope. No limitations (as far as the forum goes) on you accessing the BST sections…other than the one you can’t see unless you’re a supporting member. Sellers can add their own stipulations for the transactions.

Food for thought…the Supporting member classified section includes (1) items that are listed for sale there, but not out in public and (2) items that are discounted for Supporting members and also posted out front for a higher price 😎. You maybe even see something listed in the normal section but the seller’s terms include a requirement to be a Supporting member, or a discount for being one.

Pretty cool, thanks for letting me know. I’m gonna look into that

The 21 year old is a federal law for FFL dealers to follow. They don’t have a choice. You’ll just have to be patient in finding a private seller willing to sell to you.

Let’s reiterate some mentioned above. This “site” does not sell ANYTHING. Full stop.

We do have classifieds sections that help law abiding folks connect to make private sales. We’re like tinder…we help y’all get to know each other, you take it from there.

Quite honestly, given the nature of the world we live in, we are suspicious of any newbie that comes along probing for edge case sales. Your post reads very much like a reporter or “blogger” looking to write an article claiming how easy it is to buy illegally from the lawless internet.

So, if that’s you. Sorry, we’re an actual community here of folks that aren’t who you think we are. Stick around, learn something.

If that’s NOT you, stick around. Let us get to know you. And, welcome.

I can see what you mean and fully understand, didn’t think of it like that before. Also the fact that the site doesn’t sell has been ingrained in my head now but when I posted that wasn’t what I meant.

When you were approved for the forum, you automatically received an email from us. It’s full of helpful information. ;)

And some members WILL NOT SELL Handguns/Rifles to people under the age of 21 even with a PPP because of all the recent events. hope you understand this and don't take offense, its just a preference by the seller to do so. Nothing Personal

Despite what you may think, Gun Control laws are not about safety, they're about control.
Your weird condition exists because FFL dealers are regulated by federal law but NC Sheriffs are bound by NC law.
Federal law says a FFL dealer cannot sell handguns to under 21, but NC law says the Sheriff shall issue a pistol purchase permit to lawful 18 and up on request.
So you're doing it right but yes, it is especially difficult for you to follow the law, and it doesn't make much sense at all.

When I first got into buying and stuff that was one thing I noticed, nothing did make sense. That’s a good way to put it though thanks!

And those people are party poopers. Maybe even worse than those that want a BoS or make a copy of a DL.

Adding regulations to the already overly restrictive ones than exist is lame.

Everything that is important has already been mentioned. I will add some extra clarification. Because you cannot use a FFL due to your age, you cannot purchase a handgun from out of state since that would have to be shipped to a FFL in NC. So you need a private sale that is in-state. Good luck with your search. Once you have picked a side in the ".45 vs. 9mm" discussions, feel free to chime in with your favorite mayonnaise, banana pudding topping, and style of barbecue.

@Cascadence what type of pistol are you looking for? Did you have specific models in mind? The timeless and classic 1911, the Bavarian Brick, something military related like the Beretta M9, maybe a revolver? Is this just for the range or were you planning on open carrying or keeping it in your truck? And what were you looking to spend?

Maybe someone on here might say, “Oh hell, I’ve got one of those I could part with”.

I’ve been wanting a P10C but I’d settle, I’m looking more for a gun to train with now but eventually carry once I have my concealed at 21. Price doesn’t really matter to a point, but the p10c is the most ideal

Cas, have you ever actually fired a P10C not just held one? In all seriousness most hear preach try before you buy if you haven’t. I know it’s hard to do so but every so often a group will talk about meeting up for some fun or even better a forum weekend. It also gives members a chance to put a face to a name as well as get to know you and a feel for possible sale or trade (especially with selling a handgun to someone under 21). Not sure if there is a big Fall meet up in the works for this year but keep something like that in mind.

I haven’t been able to shoot one but I’ve held it a few times and compared it to some others I was looking at, but I wouldn’t really know until I get to shoot it I suppose. I’ll keep an eye out for meetups though that sounds pretty fun
