Harbor Freight Jack Stand Recall

I'm embarrassed to admit it but I went into a horror freight today, didn't buy or steal anything, but saw no evidence of them posting about the recall in, on or around the store. Not even at the jackstsand display. o_O

Edit to add that I was aware of the recall before I went into the store.

Sh!t! My jeep is sitting on 2 pairs of the 6 ton stands now with the front and rear axle out. Maybe this will motivate me to start working on the jeep. I think I have 2 other branded 6 ton tall stands around so will position them just in case.

I'm curious if this is truly a design flaw or a user flaw and a lawsuit.

May have some of these at home. Do wonder if it is actually a flaw. None of that style stand really gives me a secure feeling, lotta slop.

I have a pair of the three ton jackstands, so it ain’t just Harbor Freight, and mine aren’t officially recalled since they aren’t HF part numbers.

I try to keep them on the lowest/base setting.

No HF stands, do have two walmart ones (task force?)
I really dont trust many of them, but sometimes you got to crawl under

Take a look to see if yours look the same. Mine are identical to the HF stands, but labeled and bought elsewhere.
Meaning, one Chicom factory is making them for a bunch of different sellers. Shocking, I know.

I have some 3 ton HF stands but the part numbers are different. They look just like the ones in the recall though.

And I should say, the three ton jack-stands work great. Would buy again.

I chock my wheels with equally cheap wheel chocks so there is no "shift in weight" as referenced in the recall, as far as I know, anyway.

yeah, mine is like the first one.
Different brand, but same design.

But this is purely on when it's extended, yes?
Again, almost always keep mine on the lowest setting, but, typically, have the rear stands up one notch to level out with the fronts

Same, I've got a few sets of the 6 ton models, none of the part numbers match the recall. They have been fine for the past 4-5 years. I still leave the jack extended under where I am working, or slide a tire/wheel under the frame or axle If I have to go under it. Jack stand safety was taught to me at a very young age.

I took my 6 ton jack stands back, they we going to swap them out but didn’t have them stock so they gave me a gift card with the amount of new ones. I think I’ll check out a few pairs before I replace them.

I always put the tires next to the jack stands should one of them fail it will hit the tire and rim and prevent you from being injured or killed.
This is a must when using scissor jacks to change a tire on the side of the road.

That’s the textbook definition of FUBAR. o_O

I received the latest recall V2 email this afternoon as well. I will say, I think they’re handling it very well!

Not only did they offer a replacement the first time, now they’re offering you a cash refund if you simply don’t trust your stands. This is something we usually see from higher-priced brands, not the bargain guys. On the other hand, it’s a great way to reduce liability and I’m sure they can pass on a big chunk of that expense to their supplier.

It’s not about whether you have an issue, it’s about how the issue is resolved. This is true for most businesses.

I still have two sets of original 6 ton under my Jeep. Haven't worked on it in awhile so am not super concerned. I did go by my local Harbor Freight a few weeks ago and asked if they would just give me two sets of replacements and I would bring the old ones back and they would not. Maybe they will now.

Dear Lord...

Nothing like running a scissor jack up onto the pumpkin on uneven ground on the side of the road. FML.

Ive always used ratchet style jack stands, sounds like a good excuse to upgrade to some heavy duty pin style for the truck though.

When I am under a vehicle on jack stands, there is 4x4 cribbing under each corner of the frame and two floor jacks in place on each side of the frame.

If it falls, it was meant to be.

I will not be underneath a vehicle supported only with jack stands.
