Work potentially opening up new slots down there. Is it as violent and dangerous as I hear it is?

I may have a USCCA membership, but I don’t want to have to go anywhere I have a greater chance of using it, I.e Detroit or New Orleans....

Few minutes on google said something about 7 violent crimes for every 1,000 people...

My in-laws live In Goldsboro... 95% of it is a dump. The other 5% is the elite..

They live in the 5% so I guess it’s alright.

Pickle factory is in Mt Olive...7 or 8 miles south. I've lived in and/or worked in Goldsboro since 1992. It's not that bad. There are some shitty areas just like anywhere. I just don't live in or go to those places. Walmart on Spence Ave is somewhere to avoid at night. Goldsboro isn't that big and you can live in a rural/country area and only be 15 or 20 minutes away. Good outdoor gun range just south of the city off 111 south, ENC Firing Range & Shooters Club.

I remember a big one just off highway 70 outside of town. Can't remember the name like I said.

WT’s

They might be out of business?

I believe they did great until they expanded the building, thought they needed to sell clothing...

Then they started charging more for guns to hopefully overcome the building expansion expense...

Oh god, I hope yall ain't going there and getting raped.

So what I’m hearing is, “you don’t need to buy the $500 USCCA elite package if you go down there for work”, is that right?

Keep in mind, my work involves going door to door like the Avon lady only not. ;)

I'd stick to rosewood/Pikeville, those areas are bout 20 min outside goldsboro proper. Some good areas downtown too, as you walk out andys on Spence they're over yonder.

Unless you are going door to door downtown in the hood or hood adjacent, I'd just spend the $500 on magazines and ammo...or a BUG. :)

What type of work would you be doing there?

I grew up there and my parents in their late 70’s still live there. It’s no different than any other Eastern Carolina town of that size. It’s very diverse and as mentioned has good and bad areas. Nothing to be afraid of in my opinion.

I would say there is much more of a middle class than previously mentioned. Lots of families, big churches, and plenty of good people living right in town, and many nice suburban communities in all directions.

If you are talking about moving there, I will mention the public school system is not the greatest if you are a parent.

My family cemetery is in Rosewood, intersection of Perkins Mill Road and Rosewood Road.

My mother's family is from Goldsboro. I kinda echo what @Unknownpro said, but I wouldn't attribute those percentages; I'd say 70% dump, 30% pretty good. There's just not a lot to do there, and a lot of the town is empty/economically depressed. I love my family and I love stopping by to visit, but for me and my kids it is a pit stop on the way to the beach.

I have a cousin who lives on Claiborne Street, that used to be a very nice neighborhood, now it's a ghetto. Everyone else lives outside of the city proper. Another cousin owns a business near the intersection of Berkley and Ash, they live just north of town on New Hope.

Eastern NC is traditionally Described as a dump. I live and work in it now. That being said it is what you make of it. Coming from where your located now, you will have a culture shock of some nature. Sure, Raleigh isn’t that far and the beach is not terribly far away either so you can find things to do but it may involve some driving. Overall skilled higher paying jobs are harder to find down east and education in the form of public schools is not traditionally that great. The flip side is it is relatively cheaper to find housing and decent property because there is not a high priced active market like in the Cary and Raleigh areas. Crime is not as bad as what folks make you think it is in eastern NC. Yes there is crime...everywhere. Overall it’s a good place to live and grow up and raise a family. You just have to find the niche area that fits your interests and needs.

I love eastern NC....family in Goldsboro, born in Morehead City, grew up aboard Camp Lejeune, went to ECU. I am 'meh' about Goldsboro, but I'd love to live near the coast again.

Compared to many other places, Eastern North Carolina is Paradise. I've lived here for 21 years, and can't think of any other place I'd rather live.

YMMV.

Goldsboro has stuff to do and Wayne County is generally nice and rural, aside from the Air Force base, agriculture is the money maker. A lot of porky the pigs around that area too!

Agreed!!! I lived in the central part of the state but we moved back east because we missed the older southern charm of the east.

My Dad and stepmom live in Goldsboro, and they really like it. I don't believe it's as a bad as everybody is making it out to be. Sure there's bad parts of town, but every town has those. Like everyone has said there's not as much industry as a big city but thats yo be expected. Best Sushi restaurant I've ever eaten at is down there, its called Sumo. If thats your thong you won't be disappointed.

I hate to bust bubbles, but I've traveled all over the country numerous times and no..not every town has a 'bad part'. You guys have just become accustomed to yours.

I live not too far from Goldsboro and frequent it often, actually moving soon to the Deep Run area outside of Kinston. There are some rough spots to Goldsboro, but some decent areas too. nice spots in tbe country too. Also i agree with @Hub Sumo is great, so is Ninja. They also have one of those Mongolian grills where they walk around it and slap at your food with giant sticks.
