I'm flying out tomorrow morning. I rarely fly and I'm unsure about the whole thing. And, on top of all that, I'm checking a gun. I have talked to people and done a lot of research so I'm pretty sure I'll be OK. I'll give a play by play when I get home.

My buddy lives in Richmond, a little southwest of Houston. We plan to visit the Alamo while I'm there. The only thing on my bucket list to do there is to eat a taco from a truck on the side of the road.

Wishing you safe travels Sir! And best of luck with that taco :D

You like living dangerously, don't you?

You'll probably be ok at the airport on the way out. You'll be singled out for screening on the way back (probably).

Have a great trip! Remember, you're the good guy. Be civil,, but don't kow-tow.

EDIT: I meant to the TSA, but it might apply to the taco truck vendor, too!:D

Dude! You'd better get you some Texas brisket BBQ while you're there!
A stop at Rudy's is on the schedule for soon after we exit the airport.

I like Houston, a lot. My sister lived there for a long time (she is in Dallas now). The food is excellent, all the way from the truck $2 taco to the Michelin-rated restaurants, there is culture, and it is close to the coast. The traffic and weather from April-October stinks, but you takes the bad with the good.

I like Texas. As beautiful a place as I have ever been, and generally the people have been very authentic.

Nothing better than food trucks. And I'm not talking the hippy lumbersexual gourmet stuff that abounds in the gentrified cities...I'm talking food trucks where I have no idea what it is that I'm being served, can't speak the language and just say "give me what I ought to have".

Hope your not disappointed with Alamo. Growing up I thought it was big old fort. When I got to visit back in 86-87 it is smaller than I could have imagined. But SA is great town. Plenty of food.
It is very underwhelming once you see it. I had also always pictured it as a huge fort way out in the desert.

Have a beer in the Menger hotel bar where Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders if you go to the Alamo.

Also check out the river walk while you are there.

San Antonio is a cool city.

I told him about the Menger Bar. Very cool place. Had a couple beers there myself last week.

Geezer, make sure you go to Buc-ee's while you are there and their bathrooms. You will never see another convenience store like this.

We've been talking. I gave him some suggestions on places to check out here in SA when he comes to see the Alamo.

Thanks for helping take care of our bud here. Hoping he'll enjoy the grub out there and then post pics of him trying to duplicate those dishes on the Weber once he gets back.

It has been a while so not sure what it is called but there is a barbecue joint about halfway between Houston and San Antonio that is in an old gas station building. Brisket, sausage and ribs served on old butcher paper in milk crates. It will be worth your time to find it. Other than that get the bleep out of Houston as fast as you can. There is nothing for you there. And if you can travel a little around San Antonio and Austin there is some of the best food you'll ever eat.

Stopped at one today. Impressive. There is another one nearby that they tell me that I'll be visiting that is much bigger.

Once I found out that I would be going there I did some research on the history. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

Today we went to the Alamo, afterward, had lunch at Lulu's Bakery and Café. Great chicken fried steak and HUGE cinnamon rolls. Then on to Shiner and toured the brewery. I think tomorrow is Taco Truck day!!!! And then the rest of the day at a friends outdoor range. I hope to share some pictures when I return, on a borrowed computer now.

Probably the one in New Braunsfel. When I was there they were adding a second row of gas pumps. Looked like each row had about 100 pumps. Never seen so many ice coolers in one place before.

Enjoy your trip and be safe. As soon as you get back home we have some of these waiting on you sir:
