I've gone through a bunch of what were called "big and tall" "extra large" "heavy duty" camping chairs over the past few years. They all were cheap made in China crap. Does anyone know of or have a real honest to goodness heavy duty camping chair that wont break after 3 uses? I've tried the one at a academy, it's a made in china piece of garbage.

"directors chairs" have been the most sturdy folding chairs we have used.
here is an example just to get started....there are LOTS of different ones......

Nice looking and functional chair. I just want to add that I am 300# +/- and have never had a chair failure from the cheapest $5 chairs to the top $50 chairs. The only time one could consider I had a failure is in a molded plastic Adirondack chair, but it collapsed because of age (15 years) after becoming brittle.

When i used to leave them outdoors....they lasted about a year. Now i keep them indoors when not being used, they are at.least 4 years old. The fabric just dry rots out in the sun.

Versalite. @JT - tested, @JT - approved. Includes cup holder. :D
WARNING: mine are vintage; the new ones are a totally different design and look a lot like they might be a Coronavirus version nowadays.

Check Harbor Freight. Some campers at Stone Mountain had them and I was able to set in one. Very comfortable and sturdy, but can't comment on the long term wear. They did have a cup holder. I believe they were very affordable.

Kelty makes nice stuff... I have an old urban camo Walmart chair that's big/tall. It's held my fat butt for years...

Some you fat asses need to lose some fat weight.;)
Not everybody can be as svelte and slender as you.

The magnum size I posted above is the same actual size as your garden variety lawn chair 40 years ago (that I still own), by the way.

I've had one of these recliners that I've been using for nearly 20 years. The bag is shot but the chair is still solid.

Here is the chair I have. All steel, legs and base detach from the chair and collapse, then you fold the chair and the legs are stored using attached Velcro straps. Get the seat cover too.

Alps Swivel Chair

The Cadillac of camp chairs: Kermit

Expensive, rated for 350#, couple of different widths, made in Tennessee, last forever.

I don't have one, but I have some old riding buddies who do a lot of motorcycle camping, and they swear by them. I have sat in them, and they are freakishly comfortable. I can't explain why except to say that they are "just right". They sit kind of low, so some people put the leg extensions on them.

If I camped I would get one. Good gear is never cheap, and when I can get it from an American small family business who is sourcing their materials locally, I will.

Dang, I've just about talked myself into buying one. Then I'll have to start camping to justify it.

Honest question...When you use your chair do you "sit" in it or fall in it??? Makes a big difference in how long they last. Don't ask how I know!
