I absolutely need one, right now. But I am cheap, really cheap. So how do I build one? Or is there a factory option? I even thought about a braced Ruger Charger but I could always use more AR training...
Please point me in right direction. Thanks.

I run a CMMG conversion SKU 22BA487 $190 retail and $45 Boonie Packer Better-Mag adapter for S&W 15-22 magazines.
4.5” barrel, Specter II and a KAK brace.

I might have $450 in it.

That’s what I need. Though maybe with a 7-9” barrel. Any issues with stabilizing bullets? I am not looking for match accuracy, just minute of soda can at 25m.

The cheapest fast/lowskill way to get into it would be to pick up a cmmg 22 conversion kit. some people will put a plug in an AR pistol and ran without any kind of tube/brace.
I dumped 3 25rd magazines of rem thunderjunk through mine the other day with an m16a1 style build i've had queening up my safe.

Not really cheap. About $400. Does not come with a brace so if you want that there's another $100 or so. It is an aluminum receiver but does not have last round hold open.

ETA: I did see a used one at The Gun Rack in Kernersville this past Saturday for $299.

Soda Cans and plate racks fear me.

I didn't mention, as I thought it was clear, but mine uses standard AR upper & lower receivers, barrel nut, hand guard, standard LPK and does NOT have a buffer weight or buffer spring. So the only .22LR component are the CMMG conversion bolt, barrel and the Boonie Packer mag adapter.

I can swap out my 300BLK upper just by dropping in a buffer and spring. Or, I can pop this upper and mag adapter on an SBR'd lower in a couple seconds.

The HK-416 is fun to shoot, metal upper and lower. Takes same magazines as my Beretta AR,-160.
Yes you can remove the flash hider and attach your favorite .22 suppressor. :)
I had this at Battery Oaks last visit.

Forgive my ignorance but this upper and a redi-mag better-mag adapter is all I would need to convert my AR pistol into an AR .22lr pistol, right?
I would just buy black dog 22lr AR mags instead of some adapter. They're readily available and will work with an AR22 not just M*P. Unless you already have the M*P mags.

Don’t question my OCD/neurosis lol I have 15-20 15-22 mags
yeah you need the adapter then. Or sell them and buy black dog mags which come standard with the CMMG conversions. Never understood why S*W decided to go all proprietary on their mags. Of course they do it with everything rimfire so no surprise.

I already had M&P mags, so the adapter made sense for me. Otherwise the black dog style mags make a lot of sense.

Thanks, that makes more sense. I thought you were just just using a standard 5.56 pistol upper with a 5.56 barrel.

Hey Tim! How do you feel about the 15-22 magazine adapter? I read reviews that said it was loose and didn't work as desired. I know you run your gear pretty hard sometimes, so what do you think of it?

Whats the urgency?

Unfortunately, outside of a M&P 15-22, a solution does not come 'cheap'. But depending on your purpose can pay for itself rather quickly (or never)...

Well, I don’t know yet but I am sure I can come up with something. LOL

Seriously though, I just want a range toy and I don’t train on the AR platform (I hate this word, I don’t operate anything) nearly as much as I should. I figured it would be a good way to kill two birds with one .22.
Lots of good options and good info. Thanks guys. Keep it coming if there’s anything else I need to know.

I’ve never had a malfunction of any type with this setup.

I routinely do mag dumps with it using bulk pack ammo.

Plastic receivers on those Umarex.guns IIRC
Yes only for Beretta ARX-160 .22 pistol and rifle. The HK-416 is aluminum upper and lower. Plastic grip.

The good thing about a dedicated upper is that you get the same trigger stock etc as your "real" AR. But I've seen some people setup their M&P with similar rails etc as their centerfire guns.

Correct me if I’m wrong. A dedicated 22 barrel would not have a gas port is that correct?

Update: This is what I ended up with, PSA 10.5” pistol kit (in gray, because it was on sale), Anderson lower picked up cheap locally, and CMMG bravo kit.

I also have an old carry handle from a Colt that will go on it for now. If I like it as much as I think I will, I’ll build a dedicated upper with an even shorter barrel.

My youngest and I built one of these in od green last year and run it with the same cmmg kit. Upgraded the brace to an SBA3 when they came out in od. Tons of fun. Tried it with a friends .22 can a few weeks ago and that’s on my list now!

ETA: I definitely recommend spending the $15-20 on a cmmg rimfire charging handle. It’s solid instead of a channel like a regular ar ch. Casings can get up in there and trust me it sucks removing them.

Or you can go the rout I did and use a regular charging handle and get the insert for it from bore buddy so nothing can get in there!

Thanks for the tips.

I wasn't aware of this product. I like it. It gives you more options in charging handles.
