So I got this antique Ethan Allen boot gun and the original springs are AWOL. I'll need to manufacture a new flat spring for the main and probably adapt a short coil spring for the trigger. I need advice from our gunsmiths on how to go about this. what type of steel should I get, how thick should I make it, and how do I properly temper it so it'll behave as a spring? I cut a piece of zip-tie to stand in for it in these photos:
