I'm picking a new scope for my father in laws 7mm rifle.

He’s a Leupold loyalist so it has to be that brand.

His rifle has the silver colored barrel and receiver so does Leupold make a silver scope?

He picked the Leupold Freedom 3x9x50 but I’m just wondering if that’s an acceptable level or if it’s more of an entry level offering.

How far do you want it to shoot?
A good rule of thumb is $1 for every yard...

Leupold does make some silver scopes, but they were always handgun scopes as far as I remember

Entry level Leupold is superior to about 95% of the other ones in the same price range. The Freedom line replaces VX1 and VX2 which are great glass. I'm sure if he is a long time Leupold fan he will love it.

I have a VX1 3-9x50 on my .308 and it's an excellent low light riflescope.

He’s a traditionalist when it comes to hunting.

He’s the “sight it in before the season with a few rounds” kind of guy but his longest shot would around 300 yds

VX3i's are nice scopes. Unless it is a plinker or toy gun that is kinda my baseline for a serious scope. Better is good, but they are really nice scopes. And they don't weigh a ton or over power a rifle either.

Cabela's is selling that same scope for $459 also and free shipping.

I don't trust Optics Planet after they pulled the "we're in Illinois so we can't sell XXX" crap.

But sure, if you're gonna drop 5 benjis on the FIL @concepthomes1 get him a VX3i. Otherwise, get him what he picked out and let him be happy.

Don't forget to check pricing at Eurooptic too. They'll price match, and they'll also negotiate pricing with you if you ask them what their best price is on an item. I've saved hundreds buying a couple higher end optics with them.

They also have demo scopes for about 25% less. I got a Nightforce demo and it is as brand new with box papers and warranty.
