Building some shelves and I need to put a front lip on them. Not deep (just under 4"), and not really wanting something that's really thick.

Thinking about a strip of metal or hard plastic to nail across the front. Not really concerned about aesthetics, just want functional. What's out there and where would I find it? Something outside the box is fine. Just need 1/2"-1" lip to make sure bottles aren't going to slide off. And preferably real cheap.

In case the pic helps, they're going on the front of the narrow shelves on the left seen here:

Buy 1”x “best deal” white pine from lowes. Rip to desired height. Had a bunch of 1x8 white pine (actual size 3/4”x 7 1/4”) left over from building a shelving system in a walk-in closet. Ripped it to 1 1/2”. Easy to work with and cheaper than buying material already that size.

Just keep in mind white pine splits easy. I typically glue and attach with a 16g finish gun:)

Or if nice isn’t a concern vs function. Most places sell what I refer to as “latticestrips”, 1/4” by 1 1/4” strips. Attach as already mentioned.

Hell if you have a table saw. For cheap. Rip 2x4’s to desired height and width. Attach as mentioned.

About 1/2” in from each front corner drill a 1/4” hole. Buy a piece of 1/4” bar, add two bends, press it into the holes with a dab of glue. Hint, make the bar first, then drill the holes in the wood.

A piece of aluminum flat bar, the thickness of your choosing, drill and counter sink holes, screw to the edge of the shelve.

If you don't have a table saw mark up the dimensions and come on over. I can rip them in 15min.

Alternatively; use a yard stick. Heck you won't even need to break out a tape measure!

Yardsticks sound good...but gave me an even better idea. Since it's back to school shopping time, I bet I can find really cheap 12" rulers. The shelves are 13"-13-1/2" long (one side of the door can handle slightly longer shelves). Since the bottles are ~3" diameter, the one up against the wall won't fall through the small gap.

So, I'll swing by Wally World and find some wooden or plastic rulers. Probably even have holes already there to use.

Although...caulk is also a possibility. :D

The reality is the bottles will be full of bullets, so they're heavy enough I don't see them moving on their own.

I'd worry more about that angle iron bending than the lip, honestly. Esp if you're hanging lead on those shelves.

Do you have enough ammo there?
Guess you're ready for zombies or whatever!
(Note to self: go to the gun store!)
just like I tell my wife, you can't (u can but i I won't) reload 22lr and last time it wasn't to be found on a store shelf for about 5 years (2012-2017) so yeah I buy it cheap and stack it deep

Enough? No way!!!!

There's only ~30K of 22LR.

(Forgot about a stack of the 325rd boxes on another shelf...changed it from ~25K to ~30K)

Why did it get so rare on the shelves for all those years?

Now we want to see the centerfire shelves!
Not nearly as much. It was spread out in several places, so I really had no idea how much I would find. But it's enough to get me to the range a couple times. :D

I am ok on 22lr but not quite to your level. And I have more crappy stuff. I am very good on 7.62x39 especially considering I have a bolt gun. One of my buddies saw the stash and laughed saying I won't shoot it in my lifetime. Maybe I need an AK.

If the "note to self" regards buying ammo AND you live in the same state as @BigWaylon...

Don't waste your time. ;)

Perfect storm of Obama, every gun channel on YouTube told the preppers to buy a 22 rifle and 10K rounds of ammo, and Walmart artificially keeping the price low when everyone else was raising it.

But...some of us managed

I have way more mini-mag than that.

Eeh. Just haven't been able to go there. I'll probably just kill zombies slowly with my CZ bolt gun. :D

Only way I might go AK is with lots of US upgrades.
only US parts you want on an AK is the 922r required ones and maybe an optic. Com bloc AKs are where quality exists.

So I see! Nice collection!

What kind of bottle are those that have yer projectiles in the,
Whatever my wife's kombucha comes in. :D

I wash them out and remove the labels. They're a great size to hold 250rds or more.

Mighty nice of you but you’re too far away for me to take advantage of that lol.

It did give me the idea and I drink a lot of gator aid so I’ll be saving those bottles
These are actually pretty nice. Made of glass. ~2.5" diameter and ~8" tall. Not much of a neck and fairly wide mouth (closer to Gatorade than a soda).

And since she's paying a couple bucks a bottle, heck yeah I was keeping them.
