Henry adds side-gate loading to many models.

PS I noted after posting that the visible text refers only to their new single-shot shotgun, but the link itself highlights a number of new side-gate models e.g. https://www.henryusa.com/rifles/all-weather-lever-action-side-gate/

They added side gates to their pistol caliber rifles a year or 2 ago.

It would be more correct to say that they added a side gate to a few models a year or two ago; the announcement posted here is a significant broadening of models and calibers with that feature.

Hopefully Ruger will drown us in new Marlin Quality 1894/1895/336 models in next 2 years.
A .41 is on my list but Henry hadn't added the side load version yet as far as I know.

I will say still having the removeable tube to unload is a great plus for the Henry side gates.

Do love my .22 Henry carbine!

the only thing I don't like is the capacity vs. the marlins though.

I grew up with tube fed Marlins & I've always struggled & fumbled with loading gates anyway, so it's a non issue for me.

I can't/won't pay the going rate for a Marlin .41 Mag & when Henry released the steel .41, I was all over it & snagged the first 16.5" carbine I could find for sale. No regrets whatsoever & their CCH, octagon barreled .357 carbines is on my list.

That has to be the heaviest 357 lever action I've ever held.

Side gate is one of the primary reasons (along with a threaded barrel) I bought this one...

These are phenomenal - sportsman's had them at reasonable prices too a few months ago and picked one up. I had two marlin 1894s that were from ~2008 and just plagued with issues. The Henry has been absolutely flawless.

remington bought the company in 07 that was the problem, I'm guessing

Yup. Those were the worst years as they were moving all the tooling and production over. Im really hoping ruger can save them. I went through a few 1895s as well and finally gave up altogether on newer marlins. Sold all mine except my ~1994 336 which is my baby. The Henry Big Boy X was my first henry and I'm just blown away - the action out of the box is as smooth as my 20+ year 336 and the thing is just solid. Been keeping my eye out for a 45-70 side loader.

Due to the covid and fears of unrest prices are through the roof on the leverguns right now when they come back to Earth if Ruger doesn't put a 38/55 model in to production I'm going to order a henry side gate in that caliber and probably a 41 mag

I think there is a good chance ruger will - they seem to listen to the customers more than most other companies and know how to gain market share a la the 57, pc charger, wrangler, 9mm sp101. I really think they'll do wonders for marlin. But who knows how the political climate will affect it.

Before all this got stupid, I picked up lever guns in 45/70 and .357. I am not happy about the craziness of the bills being introduced. If this is all the King allows us to have......... we are screwed.
