My high school is looking for a welding teacher. I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd post up here.
Could you make more working independently or at a fabrication shop? Absolutely.
But will it provide you with the fulfillment of knowing youre changing lives? Maybe not.

I dont know what it pays, and it might be different because it's a different KIND of teaching than most (CTE, different department than the rest of us), but you'll get state employee benefits like insurance and, depending on how long youre in, a pension.

Ive got a great school, truly. We have some alumni here on this board that are highly respected and can tell you the same.
We get a lot of kids interested in welding there, many who go into it as a profession/job, so here's your chance to reach MORE of those.

If interested hit me up, rather not post location publicly, for my sake/privacy, I hope you understand
But it's in a pretty rural/suburban area of the Triad

I’m in Stanly County, NC and have been a Plant Manager in a welding facility for 16yrs, until a career ending injury last year. I have been looking at becoming a CTE teacher and may be interested, depending on the drive/location. I primarily trained employees in MIG and Arc, along with other manufacturing skills. Send me a text or an email and I’d be happy to discuss it with you. (704)550-6525

Byerly finally left? He was threatening to quit when I was there 20 years ago.

I looked into doing this at the community college. While not working in the field, I have been certified/diploma for 25 years.

If the school setting is close to the college, knowledge of all types will be needed to be taught.

Would be perfect for me now but not willing to move.

Yeah, he's done in December, but he's not coming back this year (he has enough time that he'll still be employed until then.).

He's got some health concerns, and I dont understand it fully, but it has to do with being allergic to certain scents or chemicals or something - a lot of things like cologne, perfume, axe body spray etc can trigger it. So he's done.
He's one of those long-time guys in the building, and really made a great impact on many students over the years

That school is really good about vocational programs. I took 3 years of welding and 3 years of drafting/autoCAD. They had a masonry program, wood working/construction, farming, automotive among others. Some of them you had to go to the community college or other High Schools but they offered them.

High school programs here are taught by the community college instructors. More trades need to be taught in high school. A kid at Bunker Hill got a job starting at $23.65 right out of high school in Kernersville. With some other motivation pay he made $50,000 plus. But low and behold he lasted 4 weeks because it cut into his midweek party time.

Yep, big thank you to HMP! Never thought I’d be excited by a huge pay cut, but have to say I am stoked!

I hope your enthusiasm continues for a long time.
It's a great place, seriously. And you'll be in the position to reach some kids the rest of us never can, you'll also be getting kids in a career (sometimes actually helping them get a job) that will be what they do for decades - super rad.
    See you soon!
