Anyone using the Kit Bags? I've had the Heavy Recon for a while now but just got a chance to use it for the first time this past week. Took the kids (and wife) up to price park to let them get a little exercise in the woods. We only did around two miles, but the girls are 5 and 3, so that was plenty for one trip.

I really enjoyed being able to carry the bag. It was very comfortable and allowed me to carry my CZ P-01 in an easily accessible pocket right up on my chest. I was using a Maxpedition Sneak Universal Holster. It has an additional pocket for odds and ends which let me empty my pockets and kept everything right where I needed it. The straps on it are also thin enough that you can carry a pack over them. I was carrying the HPG Umlindi for our jackets, first aid kit, and water.

All in all, it was a great set up and I would recommend you try their gear. I really like their simple yet bullet proof approach to gear design with a minimal amount of zippers and pockets.

And now a few pics!

I have the Original Kit bag, so I usually carry a few EDC provisions like a very small Med kit, RATs tourniquet, light, firekit, maps of trails and snacks

What else ya'll carry in these? Besides the required CZ, of course. ;)

Not my pics, but here is what some other folks are carrying:

Thanks for that @AD43576 , another $100 I've decided I need to spend for no apparent reason but will somehow justify.

To each their own... Screams gun more than a fishing vest to me, but it's whatever. I would feel silly wearing that, but it looks functional enough. Of course I don't look the part like some of you guys...

You ever try wearing a fishing vest with a 60 pound pack on? Plus it's kind of hard to get to anything in the vest with a large pack on. This is much more practical and low profile.

Yeah, I see these as great for hiking/camping/hunting/GHB. For that they look pretty awesome.

I get too hot to cover myself more than necessary. I'm the designated pack mule, so I always have a pretty decent size pack with all the family gear. Then I usually just OC on the waist pack belt. As a bonus, it keeps some of the imported "mtn folks" away. :D

No, I get that. It makes sense for practicality. It's a fanny pack you wear across your chest. Totally practical. I've just always prescribed to the grey man concept and looks obvious to me. maybe if it was red or blue or orange like my packs it wouldn't scream "tactical" to me. That's all. As I said, to each their own.

Keep in mind this is coming from a guy who doesn't own camo, even when I hunted. I blend by standing out...

Well, you just need to operate more operationally and embrace the operations in an operational environment.

Would these packs be decent for a runner or cyclist? I have often wondered how to carry and do these activities.

I would say so.....I run with mine. They actually make a smaller one that might be better for running i.e. you don't have a lot of room to fill it up with extra stuff. But basically just keep it as light as possible and cinch it up tight to keep it front bouncing worse than Pamela on the beach

I think I really just need room for an xds, keys, and it would be nice if there was a pocket for my phone.

Been using a Recon for a couple years when hiking and ATVing. I keep the P30 with X300u mounted, spare mag, flashlight, and small med kit in it. Have to CC in national forests and all my hiking bags have wide waist belts, so no option to CC IWB with any of them.

Quick follow up on carrying while hiking with a kit bag. I went for a hike with the family that lasted roughly three hours. I was carrying my CZ SP-01 with a Inforce APL mounted on the pistol. Well it turns out that carrying the pistol in a Maxpediton Universal holster with mag retention doesn't work out so well. The light was dead by the time we made it back to camp. The holster covers the the trigger guard and part of the light's activation buttons. So as I was carrying it, apparently it was being activated by the pressure of the holster and pack against the buttons.

The whole reason I bought this light was to use with the holster because the Surefire and Streamlight buttons snagged on the holster. Still works great for a pistol without a light, but I'm going to have to come up with something else if I want to carry a pistol mounted light.

Thus ends today's public service announcement.

Appreciate the update. I’m looking to do something similar and hadn’t figured out the holster for a pistol with a light, yet.

Just ordered one of these, been doing a lot of hiking lately and have been needing to pick one up so I have a good way to carry my pistol.

Pics when it gets in! But I don't want to see you modeling it. That never seems to end well...
Got it in last week but I’ve been pretty busy. Just got a maxpedition universal holster, a TQ holder and a Mora knive in the mail from Amazon to go in it. Overall impressions are that it feels very good quality and comfortable, look forward to hitting the trail with it.

@Derek8404

which model did you buy? I’m debating the Original vs the SAR vs the Recon. I’m looking to carry a gun, mag and maybe some critical items while running / mtn biking / hiking.

I went with the SAR bag. Was looking at the original initially but the SAR is the same thing with just the added Velcro and radio attachment loops to the front. Plus I like the way it looked.

In the Kit Bag, just carry it without the holster. It’s not really necessary and lighter w/o the holster. I carry my P30 with SF light in my Recon with no holster and never a single issue. A much smaller frame pistol may need a holster to keep it from flopping around.

I'll have to get it back out to double check, but I don't think the holster is activating the light. I'm pretty sure the retaining loop doesn't come that far forward of the trigger guard. I think it's just the kit bag itself pushing on the Inforce's paddle switches.

Gotcha. Forgot the Inforce has the push-paddles. SF has the rocker-type switches so much more difficult to toggle those by accident.

Gonna end up returning the Maxpedition holster. It creates bulk on the Velcro strip and I can feel it pushing into my chest. Probably going to go with a kydex trigger guard holder.

Just a note about Hill People Gear customer service. They have on their site that they give a Mil discount so I emailed them, got a response in about an hr with the code and I ordered a hat from their site. This was yesterday afternoon. I received a tracking number same day and looks like it will be delivered tomorrow. That’s pretty solid and quick service, seems like they have a pretty good bunch of guys running that company. I’ll definitely be ordering direct from them if I want any more of their gear in the future.

Not necessarily referring to that pack but that is the good thing about living next to Ft. Bragg. You can carry a 3 day assault pack and blend in as the surplus stuff is not "stand out-ish" around here. Heck, the homeless are supplied with military rucks for their items. I'm not a big fan of that bag as it looks like it wouldn't be comfortable, but location, location, location does have it's advantages in choosing your gear and how well it "grays" out. Just thinking out loud here.
