Short of hiring this guy to ride around with me, does anyone have suggestions for keeping my door from slamming me in the shoulder every morning?

My drive has a fairly steep incline, steep enough that the mechanism won't hold the door open if I'm parked facing uphill. So, in the morning when I'm carrying coffee, computer bag, kids stuff, etc. I've got to be ninja quick getting in before the door slams back on me.

Easy solution is to back in and let gravity hold it open, right? Well, then I have my 9 year old that "forgets" to hold it and gets a kick out of watching the door slam open and spring back. That can't be good for the hinges, eh? I've done every disciplinary thing that won't get me arrested, and a few that would be questionable, but here we are.

This is an F150, 2013. Never had this issue with several other vehicles.

Any ideas?

Don't park uphill. Park downhill.....

You can do it, put your ass into it.

I'd just lean against the door as soon as I opened it.

When I have to park as such. As soon as I open the door. I slide a cheek against it and unload my arms of junk lol

kid slamming door open gets computer/phone quarantined.
even school work. yep.

Maybe wash the hinge door catching mechanism thingy down with carb cleaner or some other cleaner that will remove the oil but leave the paint. dry it off maybe it'll hold it open but it'll wear out much sooner.

Otherwise get yerself a big stick like Buford Pusser used to walk tall with only you use it to prop the door open.

Let the kid ride the bus and wait til around 10am to leave when youve had your coffee and aint so cranky. (According to your diner fiascos)

@Tim I have a 2013 F-150 also and was looking into these. http://www.northlightlabs.com/ to create an intermediate hold opening. Not sure if they will do anything for you.

See....this is why I post annoyingly irritating things that make people think, "what the heck is @Tim ranting about now?!" Every now and then one of you meatheads has a good idea!

Sorry no mags lol

I'd like to pick up a set but keep buying ammo or guns. I think I'll try it soon as I almost dented my father's new car today in the wind.

if the door mech uses a detent system to hold it open you could just file the detent cutout on yours a little deeper to give it increased holding power. Simple and cheap fix, or put a stronger spring in it.

Small piece of 2x4. Cut a block about 4-5 inches long and put it in the pocket of the door(if it has one) and wedge it in the hinged area of the door when you open it. Cheap and fast. Like me. The cheap part that is.

Consensus decision required... tisk, tisk... what have we become...

I dunno, maybe a community of folks that make conversation and chit-chat on occasion? Feel free not to participate if that's not your thing.

My driveway slopes up to the house and my Silverado door beats me up a bit as well.

I looked at the install instructions for the Northlight labs mod and although it looks like it provides different detent positions, its not clear it has more holding power in any position unless I missed it. The mounting points for it are the stock items which seem a little dainty. Facing downhill Seems you are concerned about the sudden stop at the end of travel when it goes wide open and theres a ton of force on that bracket and A pillar. A bungee to slow it down or a cable strap/ leash that stops it before the end of travel might work.

Me, I just got used to the little bruise on top of my shoulder where the door hits me.
