I finally got all my crap together to anodize at home. Found a small angle fixture I made out of 6061 to do a test run on.

The dye was too dilute, other than that it worked great. zero continuity and took the dye evenly.

Next... guns :)

That is awesome!
I know I've seen people do it with a string of 9v batteries before, but you got a very nice setup there!

Hope you do more and post more pictures in the future.

OH, and, just a suggestion, maybe post this in DIY or OT or something so more get to see your great work, as it's not limited to only gunsmithing.

ANNNDDDDDDD one more thing - do you have multiple colors? Would you entertain doing side projects for folks?

Anything other than black, you just use rit dye. Black rit turns purpleish. I did get some black from Caswell plating.
I have one AR lower to do... and an STI frame I did in 7075 that I am going to do in gray

I'm getting set to do a project with aluminum cases for my 1858 Smith and anodizing is under consideration to make them easier to clean.

OK, question... What color for this frame?

And I fully understand the blasphemy of a Para slide on an STI (clone) frame. What can I say, I got a deal on it.

I knew this would likely need to be duracoated. It is an AR lower that I screwed up on (Safety hole in the wrong location). I hard fit a threaded insert and loctited it. Sound repair, but there is a line, and the insert is 6061. The loctite bled. I was unhappy with the dye, especially as it is fairly expensive caswell black.

Duracoat turned out fine though :)

While I was at it, I ran a couple comps I had not yet finished... the color was better... still not perfect

Again, duracoat:

Interesting design on that brake. With forward baffles and 90degree in front.
Does it work?
(I imagine it’s to cut noise/blast)

Also like that four chamber one.

And, I’d do green on frame!

That was my idea with the 9mm comp, that and just to have something beyond that short rail

I am leaning towards moss green.. no idea what it will look like on aluminum :)

I've wanted to do this for a while but haven't put it together. Would you be at all interested in doing a couple of pieces I have laying around?
