Home-made anti-drone minigun video

I was expecting an airsoft or BB mini-gun.

I imagine this contraption mounted in the bed of a Toyota pickup, or maybe this one belongs in an F150 😂

Ukraine is having fairly good success with dual or quad mounting old maxims for anti drone actions. A shotgun isn't going to do anything to a target that's out past 100 yds. They're looking to take out small suicide drones, loitering munitions and drones acting as spotters for artillery, so they're engaging targets out several hundreds of yards away and having fairly good success rates. For them it's a force multiplier they only have so many real anti-drone systems, and only so much munitions for them, so every one they take down on the edge of a town is one that doesn't do damage to the town or waste munitions that is better used on larger/deadlier targets.

Obviously this is just 2 good old boys playing around, but if it was a serious attempt at bringing a drone down within range of small caliber munitions then a rifle is going to make more sense than a shotgun on anything other than just a nuisance drone buzzing around you. One of the key requirements of anti-air/drone is taking the target down as far away from you as possible so they can't do damage to you or what you're protecting.

I'm not encouraging irresponsible shooting, but 7,62x39 has a theoretical range of about 2500 yds fired in perfect conditions at a 42 degree angle, anything steeper or less than that cuts the range down and even then at 2500 yds the rounds lost so much energy it literally drops out of the air. I didn't see any structures or infrastructure in the path of where they were shooting for what looked to be several miles. They look to be taking at least reasonable precautions for aerial gunnery with where they are shooting and the calibers they have. Now no shooting glasses, the camera angle makes it look like the guy with the dpm is slightly forward of the guy with the aks, there's other safety stuff to criticize them for.
Provided your firing area is adequate for the caliber you're shooting aerial gunning practice is no more dangerous than any other range activity.
 
Were are the anti-drone drones? I remember seeing an RF rifle that transmitted a broad frequency jamming signals.

Speaking of counter drone stuff, I'm looking forward to the new era of first person view drone dogfights. We can have our first drone ace pilots and they can mark their display goggles with kills. Mini AIM-7s and main guns, stealth drones, the works. The next Top Gun will be a zoomer Tom Cruise with an FPV drone dodging silly string SAMs
