Does anyone have suggestions on a water filtration system? With all the rain this year my well water turns dark for a few days after it rains. I can put it in myself but I'm not that familiar with them.

I have a multi pure brand under sink type system that has worked really well for us.
However, it is not a whole house type.

Did you try raising your well pump up a few feet? Sometimes that is enough.

I haven't done anything yet, just weighing my options for now. I'm hoping to get some info and see what I can do.

I installed this one a couple years ago. I have iron in my water. Got tired of changing the paper filter so often. The one aboue is not to expensive and cleans itself automatically. I also use a sediment filter to filter out the heavier iron particles. I have been pleased with mine. East to install.

If it only does it after a heavy rain -- I would check my well to make sure its not getting run off water in the well.

I would get a good 50K grain Deionization system for the whole house, then a RO system for under sink. Your water will come out better than
you ever expect.

If you have sulfur or iron (bacteria included) then you will need one more tank for the whole house. Otherwise make sure you get an RO system that has charcoal pre and post filters. BTW I just rotate my charcoal filters from Post to Pre and that saves money. RO membranes can last 2+ years.

Can you recommend a brand?

For <$500, I may have to pick this up. How often does the charcoal need replacement?

I have a whole house filter system that I installed myself from Aquasana. The system is ok...

Prefilter for sediment
Charcoal filter
Post filter

I still see iron in my water. I don't think I'd buy it again... And it was a pain to install.

I have had mine nearly three years. It still does it s job real good. My plan is to use it for 5 years or so and then replace the whole unit. Some reviews say they last 10 years and some say less. It does not eject any charcoal. You can regulate how often it will back wash and clean the charcoal. Mine is set for weekly. My sediment filter will slow the water pressure before the Whirlpool gets dirty.
This is similar to my sediment/sand prefilter https://www.amazon.com/Rusco-Vu-Flo...ocphy=9010296&hvtargid=pla-348451776166&psc=1

I have one like that at our well head and it catches a lot. Our well’s in shale that carries a bacteria that creates a suplher odor. The smaller charcoal filter produces a sulpher gas smell within 2 weeks if I don’t shock the well every 9 mo. That’s why I was curious about replacing the activated charcoal.

The last house had a filtration system Howard Hughes would appreciate. A 5 micron filter, then a 2 micron filter, then a UV disinfectant to kill any microorganisms, then a charcoal filter to eliminate any smells or tastes. Everything got swapped out every three or four months except the $100 UV bulb that would last a few years.

It was much better water than the municipal water here.

It sucked when it took a lightning strike. It knocked all the sediment loose in all the lines and plugged everything up solid. It took three changes of the set within a week.
