I just got in 500 of the above bullets. Called Hornady and asked it they could be loaded in a tube feed 30-30. The guy on the other end asked if they were spiral point and I said round noise lead. Then he said it was OK to use in the 30-30.

When I got off the phone with Hornady I was not really sure about his answer.

What do you think?

Round nose bullets are a must for any tubular magazine because pointed tips (spire point, pointed soft points, etc.) will have a pointy end right up against the primer of the next round during recoil. Nothing good comes from that.

SP usually designates soft points, which could be round nosed or pointed.

If they are these, I wouldn't use them in a tubular magazine.

Howland, these are:
30 Cal, .308 150 gr SP Interlock bullets. The item # is 3031

From a friend on another forum, I thought that the bullets in the Hornady loaded rounds (for lever action rifles) were Hornady style 3031 (the ones that I bought) but they are style 3035. I will call Hornady again to find out what is the difference between the 2.

Just Google Hornady 3031 and Hornady 3035 to see the difference. It would not be a good idea to use the 3031 in most tubular magazines commonly used with 30-30 rifles.

I have used thousands of 3031 bullets, but not in 30-30. I have some 3035 bullets for that. You can also get a 170 grain bullet, 3060, that has an even flatter point.

I loaded up some 30 Remington ammo with pointed bullets for a friend with one of those old Remingtons. It did fine. I am not sure whether the corkscrew magazine would work well with a 30/30 that has that big rim. I think you can probably get about all you can get out of a lever action 30/30 with round nose or flat nose bullets.
