hey guys I was wondering if you guys had tried out the frontier line of ammo? I got a box of the 62 grain sp to see how it shot and I think it did alright. I was hoping to find a soft point ammo that was cheap enough to stock up on instead of the American eagle I usually buy. I don’t have a pic of a target of the American eagle targets but here is a pic of the frontier on the left and just some random other ammo on the right.

I only had 2 rounds of the Barnes ammo in the center of the target on the right but the other groups on the right are 5 shot groups while the target on the left with frontier were 3 shot groups.

Bottom right on the right is wolf 62 grain fmj.

Any thoughts on experiences with the frontier would be appreciated.

I believe the frontier line is Hornady bullets with lake city brass. I've picked it up a few times extra cheap on sale and didn't notice anything wrong with it.

My thoughts would depend greatly on how those groups were shot.

- Supported? i.e., bench rest, bipod, sandbags
or
- Off hand? unsupported, standing, sitting, kneeling?

- Distance?

and your goals?
- HD/SD
- Hunting
- Competition
-....

For *ME* and *MY* goals, the Frontier stuff is not up to the job.

@Tim these were shot at 100 yards prone using a bug out bag up front for support. I wish I could shoot like that unsupported.

I was looking for hd/hunting/shtf rounds. Maybe the 62s are a little light for white tail? A lot of folks don’t like 223 for deer but I haven’t had any problems yet although I’ve used the 70 grain Barnes tsx in the past.

Haven’t used it personally but I would try it given Hornady’s rep. I did read some early batches were loaded hot (early 2018) but haven’t read about a bunch of kabooms because of it so I guess it’s either a non issue or they cooled it down

I found some brass from it and it’s marked FRONTIER 5.56mm. No LC or NATO marking. They might make it but it’s missing their stamp

In that case, I think any one of those loads would work nicely.

I've used the 77g hornady black with much success

Damn is that the lower you picked up from me? Sucker grew up to be big and strong! Ha great looking rifle.

Thanks bro, sure enough is. Wanted to go the sbr route but ran across a deal on the 14.5 upper I couldn’t pass up.

I actually just finished building a 12.5 out of one of the other ones I bought when I got yours. Can't wait to shoot it!
