I do about 30 minutes. Thats usally the max I want to do as well.

But I have a friend that is going to try and get my hired at his work very soon, making a lot more money and having a lot more benefits but its 1 hour away. 12 hour shifts on third, 4 days on, 4 off.. so it wont be TOO bad once im used to working 3rd and then ASAP buy a house near the job

Almost two miles, so maybe 5-7 minutes?

ETA: My office mate, by comparison, drives about 1.5hrs, one way, to get to the same place.

It just depends on what it's worth to you..... If you think it could work out long term, it's probably worth trying out. After a year or so, if it looks like it will work out, relocate. Commuting long distances can get expensive.....fuel, depreciation and maintenance on a vehicle adds up.

I cant say how many miles, Im not sure, maybe 15?
But it takes about 23 minutes from my driveway to my parking spot at work.
Its a great distance - enough time to chill on the way to work and home, listen to the radio/music and just unwind or mentally prepare for my day ahead.
I wouldnt want to do more than 30 minutes, personally

Some guys are vampires and love the 3rd shift... I ain't one of them. When it's dark its Time for me to sleep.
I started with 4-10's now at 5-8's both day shift. I'm pestering them to get back to 4-10's. Love that work week. Lots of time in 3 days to get stuff done.
I drive an hour to work, not much traffic and I don't mind really. I drove circles in the Bay Area for years, in all kinds of traffic, driving here in NC is a cake walk.

I'm of no use. It could be as far as walking upstairs to my hime office, or flying to Canberra, just depends on the week. We do have an office and it's about 26 miles from here and if I go there it takes about 30-35 minutes depending on time of day. I really dont mind the drive since 80% of it is no traffic and i can get my brain where it needs to be on the way in, and turn most of it back off on the way home.

Current job, 33 miles each way, approx. 45 minutes. Last job was 122 miles each way and 2 hours. Did it for 3 years.

12 miles for me, and can take anywhere from 20-40 minutes, depending on school buses, and if anyone is having a shootout in Charlotte on the way, lol. I have to go down Eastway to the Plaza, and then a couple back roads to get there. It can get interesting.

I commute 1hr each way and it’s not bad. I thought I would hate it, took the job because I needed the benefits for my family, but I’ve found I actually prefer the commute. It gives me some alone time that I simply would not have otherwise. Not sure I could drive 1hr after 3rd shift though. I worked swing shift for about 6 months and preferred 3rd because it was quieter than daytime shifts, but I could never get acclimated to the sleep changes. I fell asleep at a stop light and have no idea how many cycles I slept through, would regularly get home without memory of the drive, went days without sleep, etc. I could probably do 3rd if that was all I had to do, without alternating shifts. I worked over 30 days straight alternating days and nights in 4 day blocks one time and fell asleep standing in the elevator, twice.

Ive worked some 3rd before...ROUGH. My body never adapted to it

16 miles ~25 min. I listen to a lot of audiobooks on these back roads and really enjoy the wind-up, wind-down time.
I need a new radio in the truck so I can do that. The stock pos has no input and is on its last legs anyway. Guess I should look for a Bluetooth replacement, that would make the long commutes much more tolerable.

Same here, traveled most of the time. 16 miles to the airport, chauffeured by air wherever, got done then the same in reverse.
Now I telecommute-
30 steps to the kitchen, 30 back.
25 to the ....

You get the idea.

16 miles from home to the station
27 miles from home to CWS
28 miles from the station to CWS

45 mins but I chose the commute because I wanted to live in the country. I do not need to be in the office but I enjoy being there.

One flight of stairs. And with the best-looking, most-agreeable, and most humble boss evah.

I have a 9 week rotation Day shift, 1,2,3 two weeks each in that order. You never get right.
Well now, that pretty much 'splains some things. Let's just go ahead and plan on revisiting this quote regularly.

currently about 30 minutes each way (25 miles)

a couple of years ago, it was 3 hours... I would leave at 4:30 AM monday morning and return home on friday ... did that for a year...

early in my career, I commuted from Columbia to Florence... 75 miles each way... 1 hour 2o minutes... did that for 2 years every day.... I was younger then... lol

I can recommend a BT to FM radio transmitter. That's what I'm using.... if you're interested I'll send the link to the one that finally worked for me.

It depends......

I'm primarily a remote employee and telecommute. On those days my commute is to roll out of bed, throw on shorts and a t-shirt and walk upstairs to my office with a cup of coffee in hand. That is typically 3-4 days per week.

If I have to go into one of my local offices I either drive to Chapel Hill or Burlington and to either is about a half hour from home one way. That is 1-2 days per week typically.

Other days that I have to go into a different office for meetings I could be called upon to drive anywhere between Charlotte and Henderson. So that could be 1 to 2 hours + one way. Those extreme days are less frequent. Once or twice per month typically. I also spend a few days in Raleigh a quarter and that is about 45 mins to an hour.

After a career of mostly commuting between 5 and 8,000 miles to "the office", I'm now enjoying the 20 yard trek; usually with little or no traffic. :D

20 minutes and I wish it was further, because I would be further from town when I wasn't working.
The roughest thing about 3rd shift was it interfered with my social life at the time. Not too many bars open or things worth chasing at 7am.
Now I probably wouldn't care, except trying to sleep with a hyper little one jumping on me might be tricky. You could pay me to do it. I've been on swing shift just about all my working life.

If i was going to keep the one in it, that would be a great way to hook it up. As it is the stock one has buttons failing and the volume only works with steering wheel controls. It's pretty hilarious - in a sad way.

1hr, but it's all highway and thereis literally nobody on the roads out here.

We chose to buy here vs closer to work due to the school system and stronger housing market.

I get constipated constantly. Your material sure helps getting regular! :p

I drive 20 mins to work. 2nd shift.

My dad drives 1.5hrs one way and he works third. He has been on 3rd for more than 30 years. He's a vampire!!! Lol

I drove 22 miles each way to my office, and in San Antonio traffic that can be 30mins to 1hr, or even up to 2hrs if there’s a wreck.

Claremont?

Currently work about 10 minutes from my house. But if I have to go to the terminal it's about 30. And once a week I go to the warehouse, then when I'm finished head to the terminal, then home. I work 3rd-ish. I go on about 6pm and go home when I'm done. Last night I pulled 5.5 hours and done. But I've seen 14 hours before too. Average about 7 per night.

I can be at work in 15 minutes in the morning. Coming home, 30 minutes to 1 hour.

26 miles one way about 30 min, work 4-1AM.
Used to drive 22 miles, catch train to NYC Penn, walk to 28 & Madison for two years, then moved to Raleigh.
Before that worked 3 day week 8-8 in data center lower NY city, 70 miles one way but I was single then. Made lots of overtime.

It takes me about 20 mins to get to work. It’s about 15 miles of back roads. My wife has less than 1 mile commute
