How to get kicked off the range in 10 seconds

It's true though. I had no idea how fast I could shoot till Billy made me go fast. :) I was pretty surprised.

I could shoot really fast when I was a kid. Back in the 80s in Corpus Christi Texas kids would play A game called GUNS. We would make teams and have mini wars in the neighborhood. I had a toy Beretta because I was "Mack Bolan The EXECUTIONER". I was a straight out wizard with that gun. Full auto... Birst Fire...Sniper shot....Endless magazine capacity. I was a one man wrecking crew. We had laser guns... Bazookas....swords....tennis ball grenades... we had it all. No yards were out of bounds ... we took territory. When the battle was finished we feasted on Coca cola and snickers bars.

So I KNOW fast shooting. I am probably still pretty darn good with a sword as well.

Put a real gun in my hand and I cant hit anything rapid fire outside of maybe 10 yards or so. I am sure I could get better but I am conservative by nature and cursed with a conscience. It feels kind of wrong for me just dumping mags. I am pretty good with a shotgun but thats kind of like cheating HA HA.

Yes I did have control. It was a 16" carbine. Come to find out that the spring in the bolt was not strong enough to keep the firing pin back. What is was doing was slam firing. Asked AFT what would happen if they exam the gun and said it was completely legal.

Good job. Most peoples reaction on a runaway is to raise the gun and hang on. Whenever I am testing I download the magazine and work my way up. Usually I start with two rounds. I shot a friends Glock 18 (he is into class3 stuff). Full auto pistols are a handful. I was able to handle it but I was a little scared.... started with two rounds and worked up....he was laughing at me.

runaways are not fun... at all. Kind of feels like you just had a ND. A bit of a shock where you are wondering what just happened... are my fingers still there...have I been shot etc.

Slam fires are legal? Get that in writing. I may have to make some modifications Ha Ha. Just joking Mr ATF....stand down....stand down.

I understand that sometimes the rules are meant for idiots but rules are are applied to everyone.......... That dude had his rifle under control......therefore not causing a problem. The rapid fire rule is BS for a shooter.like that.

No doubt the shooter was doing wrong by the looks of the bystanders but there’s plenty of areas on ranges where he can shine. Most ranges today have stalls for spraying lead but controlled round fire is a necessity on certain designated firing lines. Somewhere in the background of this scene is an old fart claiming he was faster years ago, lol.

You'd Love it here!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't see One thing he did wrong except choosing where he went to shoot. Just because You don't have the skills that he performed doesn't make him an idiot. If he can stay "on" at that pace he can sure stay on using your chosen pace. One shot on at 1,200 yards is a wonderful skill, but to label a shooter as Lowest common Denominator for showing a useful skill in another environment is another sort of idiocy.

If he flaunted range rules he should find somewhere else to shoot. Like Here. I am amazed at people that can horrible names to folks that don't fall in what they seem to like. YOU certainly wouldn't like it here. If you are safe and effective you are welcome to show your skills here.

One day I’ll mosey down that way. Sounds like a fun time.

Had a public range like that in Michigan. No more than 5 rounds in a mag. No rapid fire. Double taps were acceptable.
Bald Mountain or Pontiac Lakes?
Before the 5rd rule, it was 3rd. but they didn't have a rule against rapid fire...
Me and a friend very nearly got kicked out one day because we had loaded a stack of magazines with 3rds and went to work.
RSO came stomping over to kick us out but saw the pile of magazines growing around our feet and just told us to slow it down.

Been told by a few indoor range RSOs up there that they were only coming over to remind me of the rules and that they'd happily let me break them ONLY WHEN there weren't other people around, because the other people kept putting holes in the ceiling, floor, bench in front of them, and the wall behind them. I'm not even that good of a shooter, so that kind of stuff just makes me sad.

I believe it was Pontiac Lake. Been a good 6 years since I have been there.

Sounds right. Bald Mountain was a little easier to deal with. and then they got bought out by an actual gun group that made the rules easier. pontiac lakes was a few years behind on that, but i pretty much quit going. I think they also had a 1shot load limit on the shotgun line whereas bald mountain had a full on skeet range.

Yeah, wish the video had also shown the target. If it was full of 30 holes all was well. Guess we will never know.

The faces around him are what stuck with me. As much as i don't like their rules, its their show and it seems everyone knew he was about to get punished. There was an old range like that in Raleigh a few years back. They kept saying one round per second. I wasn't trying to break the rules but it just kept happening that way. After about 2 warnings of firing 2 rounds every second and a half. I just loaded up my last mag and let er rip. Guy comes on the loudspeaker and says thats it, your outta here. We left and never went back. They closed shortly after that. As much as it pissed me off, i had to realize it was their rules that i had to go by them. We found a friend with land and i have never gone back to a range since. I prefer to shoot in the good old outdoors.

My 2 cents worth. And it is worth exactly what you paid for it.

What is the purpose of going to a range(besides having a butt load of fun)? To improve ones shooting skill.

How does one improve shooting skills? Practice, practice, practice (and doing it correctly).

How did these really fast shooters(John Wick and all) get fast? They practiced. And practiced, and practiced.

What did they practice? Shooting fast(among other things).

So if a range does not allow fast shooting how is anyone supposed to get better at fast shooting? You fill in the blank on that one.

I am all for safety but what we do is dangerous(so is getting out of bed some days).

A range that only allows slow shooting is only doing half of the job of a range(kinda like the commercial where they wash half of the house or trim half of the dog).

I am not suggesting a range should allow any and everything to occur but there is a way to accommodate most any thing.

Will we ever actually need to shoot fast? Don't have a clue(and truthfully hope I never "have to shoot" period). I hope all my shots are for fun or to put food on the table.

Bottom line: No practice = no improvement. Period.

When I was teaching, who did my BS&A drill between the beep's?

Best 2.0 seconds I ever could do repeatedly @ 7yds on a 8" square was 12rnds
