Hummingbird fights

As am I. Amazing little creatures. Only bird on the planet that can fly backwards.

They will dive-bomb you on the lawnmower if they get a chance.

My mom loves those things. She usually has between 40 and 50 at their peak every year. And she has 7 feeders out that she has to fill some once a day

I was over at a friends house watching their HB feeder. There were wasps guarding it and chasing off the hummingbirds. Hummingbirds kept approaching but would turn tail and run when the wasps came after them. Never seen that before.

They are entertaining to watch fight over a feeder. Mom has one right near her deck and you think your watching fighter jets in a dog fight at times when they really get after it.

They are fun to watch. Have one feeder up and watch them occasionally while eating breakfast on the porch. Probably one of our better years for them. There is a constant steam in the morning of them coming in and then chasing another off.

I don’t get it. They fight like little siblings at my feeder too. But I’ve seen other feeders get absolutely swarmed by them—presumably all getting along. Do I need to put some Xanax in my feeder mix???

Males are the ones I've seen fight it out.
Females seem to get along at my feeder.

Their Spring and Fall flights to South America across the Caribbean amaze me.

My wife hates the little buggers. We had a feeder on our front porch & after a couple buzzed her, she was over it. They're not very bright either, as at least one a week gets trapped in our screened in back porch. No idea what could be attracting them, but they're usually pretty wore out by the time I discover 'em & easy to catch & let go outside.

Hang a feeder in a field. Wait with a 12g. That's sport right there.

I keed.

Now bat's at dusk... ..

Wife has three? feeders. Air was thick with those things yesterday. They will buzz me, I don't care for it.
They're addicts, they perch where they can see and chase anything that comes near, then go back to their perch presumably full.

Is there anyway to keep wasps off the hummingbird feeders?

Use a feeder that requires the bird's long beak to reach the liquid. I have two of these and never see wasps feeding. Fill the center with plain water to stop the ant brigade as well:

We have 2 feeders and rarely see a bird on each or 2 on 1 but it does happen. Mostly they just chase each other. My wife went to a church friends house and there was a swarm there on 2 feeders.

They need a Bug-A-Salt Rifle

I have no idea. I didn't even know it was a problem until I saw the wasps chasing the hummingbirds away from my friends feeder. Wasps/hornets are the honey badger of the insect world.
