Hundreds of stolen guns already in 2020, police urging legal gun owners to be responsible

Stolen from cars... the very place the politicians tell you to keep it when out and about. The same place the law abiding that listen to politicians keep them.

and then, where is it that the other 150 are stolen from

So mr police...who is it that needs to be more responsible?

That’s what police are worried about as well. They say often times dangerous criminals are the ones in possession of stolen guns. Police say it’s likely they will use those guns to commit violent crimes.

Major Rutledge went over several recent cases of repeat offenders who had stolen guns in their possesion, including Eric Henderson whose been arrested more than 27 times for drug charges and assault charges.

Recently, CMPD executed a search warrant and found seven guns inside the home. Four of those guns were stolen.

If those numbers don’t concern you, we had close to 800 guns stolen out of vehicles last year,” said Major Rutledge.
The thefts are of a concern but WTH is a guy with 27 arrests AND a felon in possession of a STOLEN firearm (which is a felony in itself). That shows the DA and courts have failed to keep criminals of the street ... which is a irresponsible if not more than the people who are stupid enough to leave guns in vehicles.

I had a gun stolen from my truck in 2014, in Charlotte no less. I was concealed carrying, and had to go into a business that I knew was posted. Trying to abide by the law, I left my handgun in my locked truck. 16 minutes later, I return to find that my truck had been broken into, and my pistol was stolen.

Needless to say TODAY, I carry everywhere possible (unless I know that there is a metal detector). The CMPD even advised that I do the same regardless of some silly sign. To their credit the CMPD were very responsive to me. My gun was recovered 3 months later in Philadelphia.

This is just blatant victim blaming. Like telling a woman who got raped that she shouldn't have worn that dress/gone to that bar/etc.
No, THIS is just blatant victim blaming...
"Eastpointe's new law banning leaving guns in cars draws huge social media response"
And this is what we did about it...
"Eastpointe sued over ordinance that fines people for having unsecured guns in unlocked vehicles"
Pretty much overnight we had a member volunteer to be plaintiff so the org could have standing to represent, and it was very fast that we voted to let loose our lawyer.

It took me 3 years to recover my stolen pistol from Philadelphia's police department due to similar victim blaming. I was told repeatedly that I should not have left my pistol in my vehicle, regardless of it being locked, regardless of the posted business. I had to petition Richard Ross (the police commissioner), as well as jump through ridiculous hoops to get MY property back.

One in my car right now. Ripe.
Same here. Legally disarmed so stupid libruls can "feel safe" on their educational property. Stupid. Absolutely stupid. It would be MUCH safer concealed on my person where it wouldn't be at risk for getting stolen and used to shoot stupid libruls.

Make it so I never have to take a firearm off my person and leave it in a car.

This isn’t rocket science.

i allegedly never do anyway, for this reason. Though I’m a bit disappointed that even a “posted sign” holds legal weight here in N.C. that wasn’t even the case up north...

.see here I am, trying to impart my yankee ways on y’all southerners :)

that’s just regular stupid. The award winning stupid comes in with the liberals ideas (already being piloted elsewhere) that it makes more sense to put stronger legal burden on the GD law abiding Gun owner/victim with additional laws on specific storage requirements, rather than putting the burden on the effing criminal. Hell, they don’t even need to make new laws, they could just allow the @$$holes to actually go to jail and/or stay there for max sentence. What a wild f$&ing idea. I think I might be qualified to be the state attorney

You are in Chapel Hill. No southerners there to change. :D

Come to Apex and help teach your "yankee" brethren that their ways don't fly in these parts.

I'll give em the old Wise Guy shakedown...'Youre...what-a-ya-call-it....political views...well, they're upsetting my dear friend Miss Lilly over here. And ya see, we don't like when Miss Lilly gets upset. So you need to take your views, and shut the f&*k up about it. Cuz if ya don't, I'm is gonna have to bust up ya arms, this way the only thing you CAN do is vote with ya feet. Kapeesh?"

anyone happen to have a track suit I can borrow?

Even worse, it is public educational property (IIRC, we're at the same 10-20) so it is "our" educational property and yet we are disarmed.

NEWS FLASH TO THE CIVIL SERVANTS AUTHORIZED TO USE FORCE IN ENFORCING ANY AND ALL LAWS AGAINST THOSE YOU CLAIM TO SERVE:

If I've done my part by obeying those stupid laws which keep me from carrying my weapon wherever I go by locking it out of sight in my vehicle, then I've done my part.

IN FACT, even if I've locked it in my vehicle in plain view, I've done my part. Because it's MY vehicle and I've LOCKED it.

IN FACT, even if I HAVEN'T locked my vehicle and it's in plain view, it's MY vehicle and anybody else who enters it without my permission and takes anything from it is STILL breaking the law and is therefore GUILTY of theft.

THE THIEF IS THE ONE GUILTY OF THEFT, NOT THE VICTIM.

At best, the victim can be said to have made it easier on the thief...but that does NOT make the victim any less a victim, nor does it make the victim guilty of the crime which was committed.

I agree...be smart. But DON'T shovel blame on victims who have to put up with the sh*t that made them have to leave their weapon unattended in the first place.

I'm going to ask one PAINFUL question- How many of those vehicles broken into had "Punisher" stickers along with "Glock" stickers or "NRA" stickers or some similar firearm related stickers? I know you're proud of the 2A but if you advertise that fact, you put a target on your own back. Only sticker I have like that on my vehicle is NSSA and not many people know who it is and if they guuurgle it, it's going to most likely return something about softball. Past that, I have nothing gun related displayed on the outside of my car. Nothing tells a criminal that there's a high likelyhood of success in a breakin than a "gun on board" sticker.

Be the gray man.

To be fair, it's only an infraction now.

In my case, the thief targeted my vehicle type specially due to an inherent weakness in the design (Super Duty door locks). He hit two other super duties in the parking lot when mine was broken into. The only sticker on my truck was a Rudy’s Diesel sticker. Not sure about the other trucks.

Felony possession of a handgun isn't a very serious charge, apparently. Such serial offenders do seem unencumbered by material wealth or common responsibilities as well, however. So then, should we infer that the Second Amendment pertains to no one but them? No risk versus reward to those hardy souls of commitment only? God bless....

I had a contractor come in to work the other day. He had a late model super duty he locked his keys in and asked if anyone could open it for him. I told him Ive give it a go. Ive done a few cars over the years and have a good idea how door locks work. It took 2 seconds with a welding rod.

Yeah, it surprised me how easy it is to get in to these trucks. There is a company that makes it a bit harder https://jimmijammer.com/JJ description, 103000.htm
