Do any of you get around by bike when going to/from your deer stands?

I'm weighing the feasibility of using my mountain bike plus a converted child carrier/trailer vs. laying out the cash for an ATV of some sort.

Depending on the terrain I don't know why this wouldn't be possible. I think the child carrier would be a better idea than a trailer but then again it would depend on terrain.
If you're hunting with a rifle that easily breaks down it would be easier to carry in a child seat and you could likely just strap your bag to the seat as well. Otherwise you'll have a rifle sticking up like a flag.

You could mount a scabbard to the side of the child seat and mount it to a lower location on the bike. Then it would be beside the rear wheel instead of in the air.

Used to hunt up on Pond Mountain in Ashe County years ago. Turkey hunting one day and puffing my way back up a trail to where I was parked, when out of nowhere, guy on a mountain bike cruised up to me. He was turkey hunting too, so just had the shotgun in a scabbard and wearing his vest, so less equipment to carry. I was envious as hell that day. Saw him several times after that. He could get a lot farther back in the woods and cover more ground pretty quietly. As long as there are trails or old logging roads it is a great idea. I seriously thought about it, but never actually did it, since I would have had to outlay the cash for a bike.

you have to paint it camo first :D

I was hoping to get some feedback on carrying a rifle slung, in a pack, mounted to a rack, on a trailer....

To pull a deer out of the woods I'll be able to drive back to within a couple hundred yards, but the club doesn't want vehicle traffic (except ATVs ) during hunting hours.

Buddy of mine uses a mountain bike, actually rigged up a trailer for it.

Been doing it for years. One of my favorite public dove fields is about 3 miles from where you have to park. I put an ATV gun rack on the handlebars and a Coke crate on top of the luggage carrier (to hold my bucket) and away I go. Added a headlight last year and I'm good to go before daylight. If I get ambitious tomorrow I'll post a photo......
"If you have a gun rack on your bicycle, you might be a redneck"..... I'm a redneck....

If youre in the Triad, I have a free mountain bike you can have. Needs a little TLC but works

Wow, those Rambo bikes are expensive! 1200 bucks for a pedal bike that looks VERY similar to my Canondale for 1/4 the price
I just dont see what would make it that expensive

Patrick McManus wrote a great story about hunting from a bike when he was a kid.

So, the question of the moment is...fancy Eberlestock rifle backpack or simple handle bar mounts for the rifle?

I always walk to my stands from my vehicle. I only use an ATV, Cart, Truck if I kill something, and I go back to get it. One of the biggest 8 pointers I ever killed I walked up on going to the stand. I try to go in making as little noise as possible.

Pulling a 180lb buck on a bike would be very hard, especially in a plowed field, up a hill, or over debris. Get an ATV. On gamelands I use two legs and a game cart. On private land it's a truck or atv if the fallen deer is in an accessible area.

Something like this, but a bit smaller, is what I have in mind. Similar to a game cart really. If It's loaded down with meat, I'd be pushing the bike rather than trying to pedal.

Something like this lets me carry the climbing stand in the ~2 miles that I'm planning on going. I think it would be a good trade off of utility vs. noise.

Light weight climbing stand is what you need. 12lbs strapped on the back. That bike would be more of a workout than walking to some of the places I hunt. You need solid ground for the bike, which if you have nice trails it would be ok.

If you could ride that bike on the terrian you are hunting, an electric golf cart would work also. My back seat folds out into a small bed to haul something. Silent and utility. If I had good trails I'd use an electric golf cart over an ATV. A few good deals out there for used golf carts.

They also make that hunting bike called the quiteKat, but it seems rather expensive for what it is imo.
