Headed to the hunting camp tomorrow down east to duck hunt, and likely will also spend some time in the tree stand with the Yugo M24/47 (8mm) with Nikon 2.5x scout scope mounted. I like the challenge of taking deer with the milsurps. With this setup anything that walks in front of me out to 150 yards or so is going down......if I do my part of course.

This setup does not permanently alter the rifle. The front sight leaf comes off and I add the S&K Insta-mount scope base for the EER scout scope.

I’ve hunted a lot with one of my mosins. I’ve had better luck with it than my 30-06. Shot one at about 175yds and it dropped dead.

My first deer taken was with a unsporterized Remington manufactured M1903 .30 Govt made in Dec 41'. 75 yrds using the ladder sight flipped up and used the Christmas tree aperture all the way down. My furtherest deer taken was with my 18" FAL in .308 Win at 300m. Used a ARMS receiver cover mounting a 2.5x Simmons scope. Dropped a few also with my 14.5" M4ery 5.56x45 clone. Other rifles used but deer never showed up where Chicom SKS 7.62x39, Venezuelian 7x57 FN49/SAFN, M1 Garand .30 Govt, Mauser 93 in 7x57 amd M1917 US Enfield .30 Govt. Never used ball (FMJ) but PSP of same weight/velocity.

When I saw 'milsurp', I was thinking the crappy Malaysian (berdan!) ammo I shoot for fun that is lucky to be 4MOA. I assume all y ou guys are using military rifles, but hunting ammo. My buddy is using an SKS for hunting, but is having a hard time getting decent ammo for it.

I've not taken it hunting, but my Norinco SKS routinely holds 2" @ 50yds offhand, with either Wolf 124gr HP or PRVI 123gr SJSPs. Both shoot to the same POA/POI as well. It's the only "milsurp" I own & hate I missed out on the Swiss K-31s when they were available. Thought hard about one of those 1903A4 clones that were available from AIM for a while, but again, I waited too long.
