Hurricane Florence predictions

Y’all think I’m still working a household hazardous waste event in Moorehead City next Saturday?

Power is out in the neighborhood where I sold my house last year, at my in laws, and at my outlaws.

Mine is still on.

Some lively gusts have come through in the last 30 mins. Still have power.

Our power is still out. I am running the Wi-Fi router off a battery with a power inverter, so the kids can still have something to do. :)
Ran the generator for about an hour and a half so we could use the well pump and to keep the fridge cold. It was nice to have some fans running during that time. :)
The generator is leaking oil from somewhere, but not bad, and I can't tell where it's leaking, so I'll just keep a check on the oil level whenever we run it, and then see if I can figure it out after the storm has passed.

With immediate family in six different locations in NC/SC, mostly close to, or right on the coast I've been up since about 4AM with 10 different tabs open in my browser watching news, weather, radar, wind, power outages, NCDOT traffic cams...
It's like NORAD in here.

Think I'll have a beer now.

UNCW closed for class until further notice. Was closed all last week, too.

I just finished my second one.

Look for some stupid posts later on. Yes, more stupider than usual...

What are they saying about the roads? I don't know when I can return home...or which way I should go: I40 or thru SC I26, I-20, I95, 74-76

River flooding next week is what would concern me. I remember missing a funeral in the low country of SC a couple of years ago because of flooding around Columbia, and I40 was partially submerged between I95 and Wilmington after Fran 22 years ago. Probably after Floyd too.

As this storm travels southwest the eastern half of it is still collecting a ton of moisture from the Atlantic for another day or so and dumping it on eastern NC (and SC). I don't know what to tell you brother.

Light flickering in Franklinville... Come right back on though, it's done it a few times now.
Wife has a meatloaf in the oven. Hope it stays on long enough to finish it.

I had to leave work this morning to stop my idiot BIL from backfeeding a generator through my parent's dryer socket. Keep in mind we still have power and little to no rain. The stupidity of some people is mindblowing.
That might have been fun to watch. :D

My wife knows that one of the sites I was watching was NCDOT's traffic cams to view road conditions. So she googled "webcams" to look at them, too. She looked at me with a horrified look and said, "What are ALL THESE NEKKID WOMEN??!!!??!!"

BAHAHAHAHA

You gotta sift thru them to find the street views

I40 would probably be better but there will be a spot somewhere in Pender I think that is prone to flooding.

I heard on the radio you can contact the highway patrol for up to date hiway conditions.

here ya go

I am amazed you lost power. It is basically calm here with a slight gust every once in a while.

Me too- I was awake when it went out, nothing but light gusts, nothing that should have dropped power. Essentially I believe cost cutting on line maintenance has created these problems- they do not cut the trees back on their right of way and the slightest ice storm, breeze or dropped sappling causes issues.

Everything "not core business" is subcontracted these days, with apparently little oversight- companies playing the odds for short term profits with no penalty for guessing wrong.

My current situation

Normal people-I better get home and get ready.
Me-I wonder what the fish will hit with a hurricane coming?

The answer is swim jig.

That is awesome. During the eclipse I was up at the cabin and the deer were everywhere. I was thinking I wonder how the New River is right now. One of our contractors up there said he had a couple friends on the river that day and that they had about 2 hours of non stop action.

Some of my best stretches fishing over the years have been right before bad storms. And on a couple occasions I paid the price for saying on the lake a little too long.

I was kind of wondering if all the growth and new construction had an impact. Seems they are always working on something around here now.

Yeah, I have family in Wayne, Carteret, Craven counties, haven't heard from many of them. Not going to worry for a few days.

Just started light rain here in Heath Springs, wind around 10 with gusting.
We're supposed to get 12" + of rain around here.

Starting to get a little heavier rain drops. With some good 30 40 mph gust and a steady 12 -15 mph wind.
A little flicker of power outage, but ,still on.

Friend down in Charlotte says they've already cancelled school there on Monday, nuts.

Not at all detracting from what our friends Down East are getting, but for Durham this is a big ol nothing burger, just another day at work.

Who knows what the next couple days will bring, but so far this is been a lot less impactful then a regular summer storm.
