Hurricane Florence predictions

I must be doing the precip wrong; every time I put the cursor anywhere at any time it's like 0.01".
There is a pull-down selection under precipitation. The 1-hour and 3-hour settings show how hard it's raining, the last one shows accumulation for today.

Here in Charlotte I'm seeing that starting tonight I should expect 30-40mph wind gusts from the North, continuing through Sunday then switching to SE winds. This is good news for me because any tree damage from that will most likely miss my house

A few years ago I had 11 trees removed from my back yard because they were hanging over my house and continuing to grow toward the front yard. Now I don't have to worry about which way the wind blows or trees might fall.

You can also click a couple days ahead on the pop up calendar to see projected accumulation.

I have the feeling I'll be having some trees cut down really soon...if the wind doesn't do it first. Had a few done, but more need to be done. Nothing is hanging over the house, but we have lots of old/dying trees....very old, some of them, and very tall!!

Saw some models on youtube (Dr. Maue Weather Models), show significant rain in the Triangle, more than what NWS and WRAL are saying. I wish I knew why the difference in interpretation between the models.

Happened within the last two hrs. I think they should send a crew out to retrive the flag so it can be properly discarded.
They could have raised this flag

There is a reason I lowered and folded the US flag of the 20' pole in my yard.

Guys, keep me updated on the road conditions in NC. I'm in Greenville SC and was thinking of driving to Asheville to get on I40 to come home to Wilmington Sat night while Florence starts to go thru Columbia and head toward Greenville. Of course, I don't know what the flooding will be like....

I aint got work tomorrow cause this hurricane...get ready for meme dumps. A three day weekend with almost no plans, not sure what I'll do with myself except kill time on here cause I sure as heck wont be able to do anything outside.

Just got the first decent rain band here. About 35 mph gusts my estimate. Half inch fell in the gauge, but could have been more, rain was coming sideways.

7:20 and that old flag is still holding on. Looks like the pole is about to let go though.

Nature is an awesome, powerful force.

I'd imagine being in that tower right now and looking in every direction, seeing nothing but an angry sea and hearing nothing but howling winds, it'd make the haughtiest realize just how small and insignificant they really are.

With that, you make it sound like a good place to send all the politicians to bring them down a few pegs.

Sounds like you’d go deaf in 5mins of being out there.

It was reported that some people that evacuated the Myrtle Beach area asked to come back after the hurricane was downgraded. They were denied.

Or sitting through a legit earthquake.

They are trying to forecast the wind! The wind is fickle. I applaud them on getting it as close as they do.

Highway patrol was turning around people on Hwy 74 yesterday at Wilmington, I ran OSB that way, they don’t turn supply trucks around. Still more than one way to get back to Myrtle Beach as long as the roads don’t wash out, as there are only a few bridges, and looking at the rain forecast, is very likely along the Waccamaw river basin to have flooding.
