Get ready folks.... Michael is on his way.

Local weather is really downplaying the local effects, but I'm reading things could get bad in central SC-NC real soon.

~4" rain forecasted around Wake county and west. Wind gusts could exceed 60mph.

    Stay safe.

Had planned to drive down to Fort Benning (GA) tomorrow to attend my stepson's graduation from ABOLC. Sort of think that would be unwise given travel conditions and, I think, folk down there could benefit from less non-local traffic and freeing up available lodging.

Pender county schools have been out since Flo, a month now. Hoping the latest mess headed our way doesn't prolong the school repairs. She is driving me crazy being home every day.

Basement started leaking about an hour ago. Sigh....

I'll count my blessings that I will just be inconvenienced by the mess.

This thing came on shore with 155mph winds, gusting up to 175. That a 500 mile wide tornado.

Hows the wind down Charlotte way ?

I'm thinking about cutting for home and driving headlong into it @ 2pm going west from Raleigh. I'd like to be home before the big wind gusts...

That really pisses me off. They have a history of pulling that BS when EVERY OTHER EFFING COUNTY AROUND has already done it at 6pm the previous night.

Either SHAT or get off the pot!

Those strongest winds are only in the eye Wall. Maybe 20-40 miles wide. Those 155 mph winds didn’t extend 500 miles! That would have been a mess.

Well, I reckon we're getting hit pretty good here in the Triad. I got trees down all around the house and one across my driveway. I just hope we don't have one hit the house. Just picked up a set of 50mm PVC rain bibs with a jacket from Northern Tools just in case I have to get out there this evening.

Mine called out at 5:30am; sucks. Every other county in the area put out closing announcements yesterday before 5pm

Power just went out. What happened to this being a fast moving storm? It looks like it hasnt moved more than 40 miles all afternoon.

Wind stopped, couldn't report the outage because the Town of Apex sells the power around here and their reporting system appears fried, andddddd the power is back on.

Yep. It happens all over the coast every year. People should rethink developing barrier islands 2ft above sea level.

Power was out south of Oxford for ~ 90 mins or so: strong squalls came through 1745-1830.

Power out and trees down all over here in southern part of guilford county. Had to cut large pine across drive and 4 or 5 off fences at farm before it got dark and that was only 1/4 of the fence but atleast got enough back up to hopefully not chase animals in the dark saw several other big ones down but they can wait. Had much more damage from this one than the last.l storm.

I don't ever recall a storm in NC where the rain and the incoming eye wall had passed, and then MUCH stronger wind followed behind even after all the rain had passed.

Got home from work about 1615. 15 minutes later a tree snapped and fell in my driveway about 10 yards from the garage. Took out my dusk to dawn light and part of the neighbors fence.
Wind and rain died down 1845 so I fired up the chainsaw and cleared the driveway.
No power so on the genny for a bit.

Just found out my BiL rode it out in Panama City. He swore never to do that again. He had some roof damage but otherwise ok. His boat dock is intact. His neighbor's docks are gone. Devastation around him. Buildings down. No power, minimal phone service. He has to go outside to send us text.

Locally, on my to the store coming back from Charlotte I saw the wind pick up suddenly and watched trees start toppleing along I-77. One fell across the entrance ramp to the visitor/rest center going into SC, blocking it entirely. I beat feet it back to the house, worried about the kids. We had more impact from Michael than Florence.

    wow, what a storm.
As far a here in the Triad, the kids were out of school yesterday (Thursday), but we had an optional workday. I always do workdays because they are just too easy. Well we lost power at the school at about 11:30, they wouldnt 'let us' leave till 2. I took a long lunch. Was nothing that could be done at work with no power or internet.

Ok, so last nigh they announce around 7pm that there was a 2 hour delay.
At 6am they called it off for students, but, again, optional day. So I roll in at 7:40 and STILL NO POWER.
I hung around for about 90 minutes and left. We were told that we could go to central office and work, but the county maintenance guys had already told us that that area had a lot of trees and lines down. No thanks.

I hope my brothers on here were safe and their homes didnt get (much) damage.
I know for those in northern Davidson County there was a lot of trees and lines down.

I got home yesterday at about 2:45, by 3 the power kicked off. When I left at 6:45 this morning I still didnt have power.
Most backroads had at least one flooded bit in them (ie: Midway School Road, in the curve at Ridge, 3/4 of the road was under water at one point).

No damage to my home (no flooding, not sure about siding, didnt see any damage on sides as I left today), but no power for 15+ hours sucks. I hope that I dont lose too much food.

Lost power for a couple hours. A few small limbs down, nothing serious. We need a new minivan so we were hoping a big ol' limb would fall on the one we have.
