I’ve making square wood pieces round.

All the mortar and pestles and lidded bowel were made from a hickory tree my son-in-law took down in their yard. I chain saw milled it and dried in the garage attic over the summer.

The cake / platter came from a red maple log I pulled out of the river across the street. The beetles left neat red stained stripes

Yep.
hickory I haven’t work before.. man, that stuff is tough!
It is tough but has some beautiful grain to show once you get inside it
