I have always wanted to become a NRA (or some type of national accredited instructor) with handguns. Not to get into tactical shooting or for a long time with some help from another instructor. This would be a base level course leading up to how handguns work to the different type of handguns and calibers. Also, include different bullets information. I have a range to use from 25 to 35 yard pistol ranges and then some combat bays for later in training.

If this would work, I would love to move on to rifle lessons and maybe a course on reloading. I am going to be 65 in September but not going to retire for a couple of years. Out of 12 months, I am slow 7 months of the year. That is when I would try to teach.it.

Looking for other certifications besides the NRA but will be looking at their course over the next couple of weeks.

Your thoughts?

My whole last couple of years have been all about having no regrets when I'm on my last day.

Go! Do it! It can only be good for you, and for the people that you teach! You learn (which keeps you young), then they learn (which keeps everybody young.)

I did call the NRA instruction that is in Jacksonville, FL. He said that I have to take the basic course first which I understand. That course is a day course and when that is complete I can take the 2 day instructor course. All course are tough in Jacksonville. The instructor is an LEO and has tough LEOs on all levels. Looking to try to met up with him towards the end of the month.

I highly recommend Citizens Safety Academy based out of Murfreesboro, TN, for anyone wanting to get NRA certifications. Tiffany and Aqil are highly qualified well beyond the typical NRA standard, and they aren't looking to just hand out certifications to make money. They are truly trying to create good instructors.

What's stopping you? You getting younger? Got plenty of time? Hell like Nike says "Just do it." I'm younger than you, but i just did NRA pistol instructor then got my CCH instructor in the last 6 months. I have been shooting a long time, but i figured why not. I would look at local training classes and start scheduling them. NRA has the classes listed on their web site. I found the class to be good and thorough. Is it all you need? No, i think you need to be pretty handy with a gun and also have lots of experience prior to taking the Instructor class. Just look around and start signing up for stuff and get started.

Variable, I agree that I am not getting any younger but need the time to head down to Jacksonville. I think that I am OK with handling a gun, been shooting for a couple of years. My goal after getting the pistol instructor's license, get the rifle and reloading certificates. Hell, I would love to take the gunsmiths classes but that might take too much hands-on work. For now, I will stick with building simple ARs.
