I did a bad, bad thing (1911 related)

I bet you'll love it. Every Kimber I have used was great. The two I had ran great. I really miss the Ultra Carry. I liked that gun a lot. Went to a good forum member at least.

I'd opt for the Pro in 9mm if I were to get another. Got rid of mine as I just didn't have a need for .45 as I had got the competition bug.

Kimber gets a bad rap, but I think it's because they sell so many 1911's. They sell a LOT of them so you are going to hear more stories. I recently heard they made more 1911's than any other company. Not sure if it is true. And, as others have noted, the magazines can be a problem. My Ultra Carry didn't run as well with stock mag. I used WC mags and after a 2-300 round break in the gun ran great and was very accurate.

Odd, I've never owned a fincky 1911. Too bad I'm not so lucky with Powerball I guess. As to the running them wet I partially agree. My loose Colts ran wet, dry or whatever. When the tight Baer's and Wesson's were virgins they liked a good dose of lube. Now they are fine with a few drops. I'll have to see what the mystery Kimber brings.
Only finicky 1911s I've owned have been Kimbers (true story).:p

Then there's that whole NC ALE thing:
"ALE Director John Ledford said the Kimber pistols repeatedly suffered such problems as rounds jamming during training exercises, broken sights and the weapon's safety button sometimes falling off."

Regardless of what a safety "button" is, they do get a bad rap. Any mfr can have a bad gun or run of guns. It's what they do to fix it and fix it going forward. Only two weapons manufacturers that I will not ever do business with again and that is Taurus and Mossberg. Had 2 guns from each that had nothing but problems. There won't be a 3rd gun for me from either mfr.

Turnbull doesn't associate himself with just anything....:)

Well OK, there is that Ruger Mark IV thing.....lol

Funny. Especially considering the blown up Glock thread tonight!
What did they do, load it with C4? My Gen 2 G19 has been going strong for 22 years now. Not one single malfunction of any kind since I took it out of the box. Don't want to hijack this thread so that's all I'll say about Glocks here. Be happy to discuss it in a separate thread if needed.

Sheeze, after reading the title of the post I figured you had taken a Dremel to the feed ramp on your new Dan Wesson
That's exactly what I was thinking.
This one runs like a top. I can't afford a Nighthawk or Les Baer....but this one runs and is accurate. And I agree with Black gun... I just run Wilson Combat Tactical mags in mine.

Mr Glock shot his guns with his left hand so he wouldn't blow up his right. This is good advice.

There are a ton of decent 1911s these days. Lots of options for whatever budget you have.

I would like to have a Kimber ICQB Det 1; ain't gonna happen.

I haven't had too much success with Kimbers, but I tried. If I had the $ to blow on a 9mm 1911, I would get a Wilson and call it a day.

Hope you like it and it shoots well for you.

I've had a bad and a good Kimber, as well as a bad Colt. A couple of good SA's. Current is a SA Lightweight Operator. By "good" I mean reliable, by "bad" I mean unreliable. I don't have much patience for unreliable guns. Period. I'm not big into "tinkering" to get them to run. I've got the one 1911 and it's a range gun.

Yeah, except the Wilson would have been another $2500 or so. :(

None of my 1911s are unreliable. They shoot anything I put in them, feed and eject everything and are tack drivers. The only guns better are my Hi-Powers.

One of the most accurate 1911s I’ve ever fired was a dang Taurus. Frickin thing was a
laser.

If you are used to Dan's then yea you will probably be disappointed. I have had two Kimbers and both have been traded away fairly quickly. Pretty guns but neither would group worth a darn.

The new Kimber is in the house. Some extra Tripp mags arrived also. Should have time to give it a good cleaning and lube later this week. Then shoot it next weekend. Everything looks and feels nice. Seems like a well made gun. I'll get some pics up with the whole family sometime next weekend. Gonna run it wet and shoot the snot out of it.

Oh, and itmis a little heavy and solidly built, so I thought it might need a lightweight partner in case I want to carry a 9mm 1911.

I went through a 1911 thing. These days I am down to just a few. A Dan Wesson CBOB, Colt 70 Series, Colt Combat Elite (Original version), Colt WWI Repro, Custom Colt CCO, Les Baer TRS and a Colt 80 series which is going to go to Don Williams of the Action works for a full house custom job as soon as my spot comes up. I am hoping that will be in early Spring 2018. I am also on Mr. John Harrison's wait list but I don't think he will be calling me until 2019. If all goes well I am also going to send a Colt 70 to Ted Yost one of these days.

I used to want Wilsons, Ed Browns, Guncrafters etc... but the more I looked at the off the shelf semi-customs the more I realized that if I was going to spend $2500+ on a 1911 I wanted it built exactly the way I wanted it. I did not want a off the shelf. So I started talking to 1911 smiths whose build I liked. If I was going to by another off the shelf gun I would get a Dan Wesson. They are a gateway drug to higher end 1911s. IMHO

Good luck with your Kimber I hope it serves you well.

You not only went through a '1911 thing', but it sounds like a pretty serious case. Congratulations! I've got a few high wants, but at my age with a kid going to college in a year and half and another one younger I am pacing myself. I'd love to buy a few hardcore 1911 wants, but timing isn't right. Yet. :(
