Looks like I blew the disc out between my C6 and C7 vertebra. Anybody have any experience with this? Looks like surgery is called for. I'll have to see the spinal specialist to know for sure.

Holy crap, Mike. And your wife just got over spinal surgery did she not?

I can't add anything to this discussion, but a prayer.

My FIL has a herniated C4/5 disc. It took a while to get it corrected and in the mean time he developed s lot of scar tissue on the nerve and is looking at a LONG recovery, as in months before he will have real mobility again. Get it fixed promptly.

Sorry to hear about your injury. No experience with cervical discs as mine has always been confined to my lower back. Had my first surgery in '94 and an L4-L5 fusion in '07. Not very much fun and I don't think I'll ever be 100%. Hopefully neck issues have better recovery rates. noway2 hit the nail on the head, get it fixed ASAP. It's not going to fix itself, ask me how I know.

Yes. I do. Best advise I can give is manage your expectations. Understand that success to the surgeon is your neck being stable and you moving on with your life. It is not you being pain free. Good luck.

Dangit, Mike. How'd you manage that?
Wondering the same thing. When I saw the thread title, I was expecting lumbar disc issue, not all the way up at the cervical spine.

For sure, cervical spine issues are going to ramp up as today's kids grow up. All these kids with spines developing in a "checking my smartphone" posture are going to be a boon to orthopedists.

I had 3 verts fused in my neck about 2004. Easy really and fast recovery.

Prayers up for a quick and successful surgery.
Got it while working out...I was stretching, went to a full bend to the floor, when I came up I felt it in the back of my neck. New something was wrong immediately.

I had a mishap in 1996 when I was kickboxing. Ever since then If I moved my head the wrong way I'd get a kink in it or something that would hurt like holy hell for about a week. This time it just went nuclear. The stretch I was doing is something I've done thousands of times and have never had a problem before.

I was expecting a different kind of blow out that needed this reference chart:

Seriously though, sorry about your neck my brother had a fusion performed on his lower back. Can't remember the C-numbers. He was down for the count for several months afterward. Plan on some rehab time and a different life afterward.

The kamehasutra is only for the young and flexible. You must have tried page 37.

Hope it all works out for you.

Hope all goes well with the treatment and recovery.

Ended up in the ER once because of that. Turns out I was holding the book upside down.

precisely, just relax and eat bacon. nothing bad happens from fresh crispy bacon
I'm going to reread this in the morning when I'm eating bacon. Either Wright Applewood thick cut bacon...or Hormel black label low sodium bacon. Cannot decide which.

I've got one ruptured and 2 herniated in my neck, can't remember off hand thinking 3-4-5. One ruptured to the left and caught the nerve in my left arm doing some funky things. One herniated straight back and one herniated to the right. I think I may now have 2 ruptured actually. I was coming off a furniture truck with a 200 lb table top trying to lower it and step off. The weight pushed me off the bumper and the table tried to drive me into the asphalt like a nail. If the company Dr wasn't so sorry I might have caught it before the company went BK. Just my luck, it took years to blow out. Same as you, I would get a kink, go to the chiropractor, feel better, rinse and repeat.

Been managing it with exercise and did OK. Switched my diet up and nearly pain free for now. I'm sure I'll go under the knife eventually. But physical therapy got me back to somewhat normal immediately after.

I was in Ft Leonard Wood in 2000, going to Basic NCO School, PT test was required before you started the course. I bent over to tie my shoes and my back went out! I ran that PT test with just 15 seconds to spare! I looked more loved ke a ruptured crab! I feel for ya!

My neck is good (knock on wood), but my low back is a mess. To have the surgery to fix it I would need 2 prepatory surgeries. My surgeon said as long as I can manage, to keep kicking the can of surgery.
