I've had this forever and only god knows who and what this weapon has killed. I'm looking to let it go but trying to decide what a good starting price is.

I know there 's a bunch of you guys who have the knowledge I lack.

Please feel free to comment with anything you think is relevant.

thanks!

You can see by the 'ac' that this was made at the Walther plant in 1943. So, it's the most common P38, its not a rare variant.
There's also the issue that there seems to be no bluing left on the pistol and rust. I guessing this was kept inside the holster, allowing moisture to rest on the pistol. Looks like some heavy corrosion on the slide that was cleaned off, leaving pitting.
Internals would probably ok, I bet.

It has been in my safe for 30 years but shoots just fine. Any idea of a rough value in this condition? Thanks!

There is an actual appraisal thread in the "Members Only" section. As indicated above, that is where you need to post for sale items if you want appraisals. Go to the top right corner of the screen and click your username/avatar. That should open the account menu below:

Choose "Account Details" (see above) and you should come to another account menu like so:

Click that "Your Account" menu dropdown which brings you here:

From there, choose "Account Upgrades" and select the "Supporting Member" option (or higher membership option if you so choose). The "Supporting Membership" is only $20 per year, and the money goes to site maintenance, upgrades, support, storage, bandwidth, etc. And it opens up the members only sections, such as the exclusive classifieds and the "Appraisals" thread. It also signals to members here that you are here to contribute, not just take, and that you are probably not just another hit and run Armslist scammer, etc.

It'll be the best $20 you spend today.

Thanks for your help!
No problemo. A lot of folks are hesitant or unwilling to reply to appraisal requests by non-supporting members and outside of the official thread. If you want a cross section of knowledgeable opinions and information, that is where you want to ask. Welcome to the forum!

My advice would be to go out to one of the auction websites, do a search for completed auctions for the particular item you're wanting to sell and look at the ones that completed with someone actually buying the item. One of the more popular sites has a history that goes back 45 days I believe and lets you sort the results on price. Of course, you can always ask for whatever you want but unless you can explain why your item is so much better then be prepared for lots of bumps.

Grips are also incorrect. What you have on there are post war grips for the P-1. If it is truly matching they are worth in the $1000-$1250 range right now in good condition. However, yours being in poor condition and incorrect grips, I would give it a rough value of about $600 on it. Holster is also incorrect and looks like it should be of the German .32acp pocket pistol variety.

EDIT: Holster is correct
