Me an' @Sneakymedic like to find vintage vices, fix 'em up an' put 'em to use. Wifey found me one for me birthday. It's a Sears 3 1/2" vice made in Japan. It has to be 50 years old, at least. It is in very good condition. Someone painted it up without taking it apart. I can fix that.

My dad had a Sears vise like that he put in his shop about 1965. It was painted red. He beat the snot out of that thing.

Got a set of Craftsman Metric wrenches marked Japan BF in 1985, coworker cold not believe it, took a few in to work to show him, his jaw dropped.
Found this info on another tool group, BF = probably Daido, possibly Hozan, Japanese made, ca 1969 - 1987

This thread reminds me that the king no longer allows us to buy good paint stripper.

I have that same one in my reloading room. I rescued it from my MILs garage before goodwill got there. Heres a couple more from that stash... retractable blades are for Nancies!

This one is currently holding my stock project for the J C Higgins 101.7 I am working on. I too like to find and refurbish old things and put them back to use. Currently looking for an old spokeshave to help with the stock.

Extra points for anyone who knows what this vice is for.

One use is for sharpening saw blades.

Nice find and refurb!

Curious if any one has had success at putting the knurling back on a set of jaws that its worn down on? Or a found a reasonable place to get new jaws? Was gifted smaller old one that jaws have worn down pretty smooth on and struggles to bite anything very well to hold it and act hardened.

Scored this little jewel a few minutes ago on one of the online yard sale pages on the wifes facebook. Sells for almost $50. Gave $10 for it. Lady said it was her brothers and she didn't think it had ever been out of the box.

So here is the vise i rescued from goodwill. Turns out it resembles the OP but is not the same. It's a Champion 506 something. Here it is on my workbench with what will be a QC block.

I also rescued this amazing set of bits and a brace which i put to work setting up the bench. They need some TLC but are still razor sharp. I prefer these to a spade bit all day long
