BMG.

I mean, yeah, I turned 50 recently and figured that was a good reason to get a Bushmaster BA50. And, that's honestly the best reason I got it. Well another reason is that since it's illegal in California, it must be a good thing. I like fois gras and chevaline.

I've always wanted one- and knew that I would get one some day- because I've been buying ammo for it the past few years.

Solution: I have a 50BMG bolt-action rifle.

Problem #1: where to shoot it. It's allegedly a 1MOA rifle, capable of 1000+ yards.
Problem #2: it needs a muzzle brake. The newer BA50 have a suppressor mount (I'm not kidding) instead of a brake.

That's one of my bucket list items. Own a 50 just because :)

Nice purchase! I'm a range officer out there at fld. And if you want to become a member at frontline come on! Also once you become a member you have to qualify on the 1000 yard range to use it. If you decide to do it just let the owner Paul know when you are coming so he can arrange for different steel to be used with that 50.

I liked the Bushmaster for a couple of reasons- one was the accuracy out of the box- the Lothar Walther barrel allegedly can do 1MOA with ball ammo. Secondly, I really liked the design of a magazine-fed rifle- with a left-sided bolt handle (no need to move from scope between shots). Ok, and third it was an amazing good deal, sub $4k.

Thank you very much- I've got a while before I'm ready to try, but like that FLD is out there. I've got to get some optics before I get close- and the one significant downside to this rifle is that the rail is zero MOA, so need to get a seriously canted mount, and a scope with a lot of elevation.

Use the rail that comes with it and get a uni mount that is at least 20 moa cant to it. American defense. Nightforce. Aadmount just to name a few. They have some that have more cant made into the one piece mount as well

Bushnell 4.5-3o or Sightron 10-50. I have the Sightron 10-50 on my AR50 and it hasn't went tits up yet. From what I just pulled up yours already has a muzzle brake which is also an adapter for a specific suppressor. It is a dang sight smaller than the clamshell I have on the AR50.

Gonna load for it or shoot factory ammo?

I may have to look into FLD also just to stretch a couple out.

The 'muzzle brake' on this one is lame compared to the clamshell/tank style of the model last year. The theory is that whatever company owns bushmaster also owns AAC, so this was a marketing crossover hoping those that dropped coin on the BA50 will go ahead and get the suppressor. But, I'll be glad to swap you out for yours :)

I bought a stack of factory ammo, but I'll probably load for it going forward.

As a member when I asked about shooting the .50 at frontline, I got a no go. I’m already qualled on their 1000 yard range. They said .338 lapua out past 500 but no 50 bmg.

Paul is setting up a range just for the lapua and bmg. He has just been so busy with the long range competitions lately he hasn't gotten around it.

Well alrighty now.......... Let the word out when the big boy range is finished.

Updates please

Ok! Update. I just took it out and fired it today for the first time! OMG so fun. I was amazed how soft it actually shot. The muzzle brake was effective and didn't seem any louder than my ridiculous brake on my 3-gun AR. Between that and the generous limb saver that's on it it was honestly softer than my bolt 308 or 12 gauge auto. The left-hand bolt is cool, and speaking of cool this thing is a heat sink- fired shells come out cool to the touch. I bought some 1/2" AR500 that I'll need to set up way out there to see the accuracy, but I'm quite pleased.

Is that suppressor attachment to encourage your purchase of suppression. I would assume so that the percussive effects won't knock low flying planes out of the air.

I only shot it that one time- but it did some mean damage to a 1/2" piece of soft steel. That 1/2" AR500 was hoping to have something to shoot, but unless I set it up pretty darn far away that will get trashed too. I really want some decent distance range I can shoot it, so I'm hoping to find a safe lane at my hunt club.
