To follow up on an earlier thread, I started getting a couple lowers and uppers as well as a trigger (order them today). I have a few carbine 223s and a 300 BO. Not really sure what I want to build. Was thinking about a 204 Ruger but the barrel for them are a little pricey and it is too hard to keep up with the brass.

Thinking about a pistol 223 or a 20" 223. I have never shot either one. Before someone says a 224 or 6.5 Grendel I do not want another caliber (would love to have them) and have to start buying new brass or factory rounds to get the brass.

What are your thought on the pistol 223 or a 20" AR-15?

Maybe create a poll? Not personally interested in .223 pistols so I would vote the 20".

Burned out Creek, do you have a pistol 223 or 300? If so, do you shoot it much. I have a hard time figuring out if it would just sit in the safe.

Depends... do you have a can? I've had a lot of fun with a 10.5" 223 SBR. With a can on it handles like a carbine, it eats cheap steel ammo and it's quiet(er) so much more pleasant to shoot

Had a 223 pistol. Zero purpose in my opinion, other than cheaper ammo.

I have a 300blk sbr that I absolutely adore shooting with a can.

Wish you were closer...I’d loan you a 20” .223 that I’ve had a couple years but not sure I’ve ever actually shot. I even added a dedicated silencer to it a couple months ago. :(

I can’t speak for BOG but my 11.5” .223 pistol comes with me to the range every visit. Since I got it, my daughters and I put more rounds down range with it than my 16” AR.

@Oldguy has a 300BLK pistol that he says he likes very much. As for how often he shoots it vs ARs, Id have to let him answer that. But I do know it doesnt just sit in the safe lol.

I will disagree. I love my 223 pistol. It handles like a dream and is a lot of fun to shoot steel with at the range. Quicker transitions between targets. IMO the blast and loudness is way overrated. At least on an outdoor range. Indoors may be a different story. Same mags and ammo as my other ARs. Can shoot out to 200-300 yards reasonably accurately. Don't need to reload or buy pricey ammo. Can remain loaded and concealed in my vehicle where my other 'rifles' can't. Legally. If I want to shoot tiny groups at distance I have bolt actions for that. For now all I've done is add an Aimpoint to mine. Thinking about a trigger upgrade at some point, but for what it is it works fine. Mine is 11.5" so it is bordering on the pistol/SBR length.

I'd agree with BOG and the 300BLK, it makes a great pistol, especially since you're already into 300. Bigger bullet if you wish to hunt with it too and can get by with a shorter barrel than a 223 pistol, at least from what I've read on comparisons of performance. Folks that get into a suppressor do nothing but rave about it. Of course it's pricey ammo but you can find a good sale from time to time, or start reloading it, which I hope to do at some point. It's a fun round.
