I sure miss Lucky13....

A guy who works up in the Triad told me the competitive issues, codes, etc. spread his business pretty thin. Also he has his own business in the aviation industry.

It does suck.....

I bought some coated 9mm 147 grains at the Gun Rack (very close to Lucky 13's old location). They weren't the zombie green, but blue. Good ensuf for me.

His was an example of why it is unwise to mix your business and politics. On a different site, I got into it with someone that thought was a loud mouthed a-hole and he "liked" this guys obnoxious posts using his business handle. A few times I thought about buying from him and remembered those "likes" and bought online instead.

There is an old saying about involve politics in your business and you will lose half your customers.

When it’s all said and done, he took a hobby that he enjoyed and tried to make a business out of it. Business is always tough, and I think it just wore on him. He would occasionally vent here, especially when folks would post links and info about sales of reloading supplies from companies that didn’t support the forum. I think his decision to exit the business was very well considered.

I did my part to keep his doors open. I'll be shooting green 9mm for a few more years yet.

I'm with you. I was the reason he had .41 coated bullets and ended up buying him out when he shut down. The sad part is I can no longer feed my 41 magnums as cheap as I have been.

You are 100% correct. He took a hobby, tired to make it a business and the business wore him out. He was is an awesome guy though. I can't tell you how many times he gave me his person number to call and bounce ideas or issues off of. I learned a lot talking to him and while I bought a few thousand bullets, primers and some powder from him I know I was no where near a big customer for him.

Maybe the universe is telling you to sell your 41magnums.

I’m here to help if you need it!

Yep, I miss his business as well. He always gladly answered the few questions I had and the shipments always arrived quicker than advertised. I still have about 2,000 each of .45 and 9mm lead so it won't be long before I have to shop for a new supplier. Any recommendation's? 9mm lead 124 gr and .45 200 gr lswc.

I will say that I tried Casting Machine from the Cast Bullets forum and really didn’t like them.

Have nothing but good things to say about blue bullets, their 38swc just weren’t as accurate as L13’s. Really like the blue 9mm 147

Try Acme bullets out of Wisconsin (http://acmebullet.com/). They sell coated or straight lead, have decent prices, and ship your bullets in a unique old style looking wooden box, usually with a little candy inside. I believe I can scare up a 10% off discount code for you if you are interested. They are as good as any coated lead bullet I have used.

That being said Ive had good luck with bayou bullets, black bullets, H&S bullets, Eggleston munitions, SNS bullets, Missouri bullet co., Ibejiheads bullets, Precision bullets, leatherheads, and I'm sure I'm leaving out some. Yea, I like to tinker and experiment...

Seems coated is the way to go for competition, but whats everyone like for practice or plinking? If anyone wants cast Ive been pondering stocking 180gr .40 and 147gr 9mm.

Price dif between coated and lubed is pretty insignificant. Many are adverse to the smoke and handling lead.

Only reason I use lubed is I cast my own and coating can be finicky.

Very good point. That's the biggest reason why I haven't picked anything up. My cost compared to blues is a no brainer for the blues. Now 223 is a different story, there's a huge savings depending on how you shoot and what accuracy you're looking for

Oh yeah recommendations, Blues are good, and also local.

The couple orders I got from SNS shipped quick were flawless, and my fingers kept their natural pigment.

I bought a small amount from a variety of sources when I got my press earlier this year. Not home right now to see what else I had.

Of the ones mentioned, I know I've also used some coated ones from Palmetto Projectiles (also a local company).

I ordered some of them Saturday to give them a try. I really like the design too! Hope they work well.

I really like the Blue Bullets 147 grain (actually about 150) the best. I just think the coating quality is better than the others I have tried. It also has a forgiving profile for shorter chambers. I didn't care for the zombies.

I like everything about the blue bullets except for the smurf fingers after handling them. They are good bullets but no other brand of coated lead bullet I have ever used leaves residue like theirs does. Just don't like them enough to put up with it.

I just learned how to cast my own, and powder coat them. More choice of projectiles, I can size to my gun, etc.

Ive ordered a few thousand naked (unsized, unlubed) cast bullets to try my hand at powder coating and have had great results. Next step is to learn how to cast them myself, probably going to be this winters project.

That's what I was about to post. I have all kinds of colors of coated bullets...and while the Blue Bullets may be the nicest looking, they're the only ones that turn my fingers colors.

Blues are a great bullet and with the several discount programs they offer, their price makes blue fingers a non issue for me.
