I received the following email a couple of hours ago. I don't even understand what it's trying to tell me. I haven't clicked on any link but the "Click here to change your password" link appears to be to a legitimate CFF URL ( didn't click on it, but examined the embedded URL). I don't have an account at any of the sites listed below.

No it's for reals. Our site checks other sites with the same user names and emails as our folks and checks for breaches.

It's a way to protect both you and our site from hacks.

If you use the same password on multiple sites you should immediately change all of your passwords to keep someone from using your accounts.

If you use separate passwords for different sites you should be ok.

You posted as I was typing - surprised to hear this.
Seemed like a scam for sure

Yeah the first person that got it pm'd me and it thought the same thing.

Then I sent up the geek signal and got the scoop. It's a security program we run on the site.

One of the worst hacks another site had that shall remain nameless happened because someone's account on another site was breached and they used the same password.

That site was down for a couples of days and lost a ton of data.

It sounds like you are saying that one of those other sites, where I have the same email address or user name registered, has been compromised? Or are you saying that my account here or at one of those other sites has been compromised?

This is the only site where I use this user name. I never use the same password on multiple sites, and my pw is so complicated I have to cut and paste it from a password document. I don't even have accounts at any of those other sites. So how did I get this?

Basically it is an alert saying your email address was harvested, along with the password of some OTHER site and it is a warning that if you used that same password elsewhere you're at risk.

What he said.
