I’m an M&P guy, own one 1911, I can’t fit anymore long guns in my safe, could use another full size hi-cap 9mm, have always liked the MK25 and loved shooting my friend’s Legion. I like the fact that they have an alloy frame because the extra mass makes shooting even easier. I also hear that they’re an excellent suppressor host.

I don’t want to spend $1k+ plus on a Legion, and will likely buy a used or CPO model, but there seem to be so many different versions out there. I think I want an Elite (not SS) or TacOps, based on the below wants.

9mm
Black finish
SRT
Night sights
Railed frame
E2 grips, no wood, magwell type or G10 would be a plus
Elite series frame checkering is nice
Threaded barrel (can be added)
May add a Grays trigger

I contemplated buying a CPO last night for a great price but after adding SRT & NS, an Elite was only a few bucks more and comes with them already installed.

Anything else I need to consider?

I would get the MK25 if I had to choose anything other than a Legion.

Consider used. Sig discontinued sku# E26R-9-BSS-SRT, but sounds like thats the one you want since youre not wanting to drop a load of cash on one. It puts you on each of these from your want list:

9mm
Black finish
SRT
Night sights
Railed frame
E2 grips

I see them pop up from time to time on GB. Prices vary from pretty good to wtf lol. Gotta be patient.
I have one and love it. Lotsa folks will be along to tell you about the high bore axis, but the truth is its heavy enough and shoots smooth enough that its barely noticeable. I have in the neighborhood of 9k-10k through mine and have never had a stoppage. At one point I wanted to try to make it fail. I went approx 1500 without doing anything more than a surface wipe down after range trips...no cleaning or lubing.
I trust my life to it. So much so that it is the full size pistol I chose to put in the 'get home bag' in my truck.

PS...GREAT supressor host, too

I would love to but they seem impossible to find, especially with the threaded barrel. When I do find them, they’re right up there with the Legions. I believe they’re discontinued but could be wrong.

One question about the MK25, does the phosphated internals degrade the feel of the action and trigger? Never shot or handled an MK25 so I’m not sure.

I couldn't tell any measurable difference.

I have the 226 with regular internals mentioned above and the M11 with phosphated internals as well.
I cant tell any difference between the action of the two.
As always, ymmv

I’ve got a Sig factory threaded barrel that I swap between my cadre of 226s. You’re welcome to shoot any of them anytime you’d like. I can bring my can or you can use yours if you have one.

I’ve had a mk25 and the legion Sao. Couldn’t get use to the da/sa but man that sao was sweet. The only thing I didn’t like was the finish on the legion. After carrying it less than a month there was rust on the safety and hammer. Sig wasn’t much help either.

Either way I hope you find what you’re looking for.

Very generous of you, thanks! I’ve shot my friend’s Legion and an older West German but neither were threaded so I didn’t run my Octane. They shoot so nice that being a great host is just icing on the cake, but I also won’t buy anything that I can’t suppress haha.

If it were me I would do this. https://www.recoilgunworks.com/sauer-p226-p-56607.html

$579 skip the SRT it is overrated. Instead send the gun to Robert Burke. The Sig Armorer and have a Total Automations QTR System trigger and a trigger job for $345. The reset on this trigger system is as short as the SRT but it significantly reduces the takeup on the DA and SA trigger in addition. From there all you need a threaded barrel. Which you should be able to get for $150 LNIB.

You would be over $1050 but have a much better gun IMHO.

That’s a whole lotta dollars for a trigger/trigger job, at least to me. I loved my friend’s Legion trigger which is why I plan to replicate that with the SRT & Grays for only $120. I’m also always thinking about resale value and feel like I would take a bath on that one compared to SRT + Grays. Haven’t come across any guns for sale with that so I don’t really know.

In my humble opinion, they all started going downhill qualitatively once they stopped making them in Germany. If I got another one, I would get another West German one from the mid-80s, Then get the trigger and grips you want.

The Mk25 it's nice but really a marketing gimmick. That's a whole lot of money for that gun.

Also don’t forget that you can swap any 226 to E2 grips. May need to get a new mainspring, strut and housing, though.
To me, the Legion is not worth it. I love my W. German’s, but the German and early US made guns are very nice, too. Later generation are a little more hit or miss, unfortunately.
Find the frame/slide combination you like. The grips, barrel, sights, etc. can be easily changed to your preference.

People always talk about losing money on custom work but it is my experience that when you have work done by a known smith that you rarely lose money if you know where to sell them. For example if I tried to sell my Don Williams custom 1911 here I would lose money. If I posted the gun on 1911Adicts where people know who Don Williams is and respect his work I would be able to sell it for what I have in it quickly. The same is true with Sigs. If have a Burke Sig with solid modifications you can get your money out.

SRT, Legions, MK25s etc... are really a ton of marketing which if I am being honest is what Sig is best at these days. I am with @Chuckman I will take an older W German/German Production over US production everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

This is my last P226. Barsto Barrel custom trigger job Gray Guns, CCR Refinish and fiber optic sights. I could sell it for what I have in it. If I wanted to. I will one day pick up a stock W. German P226 but it is low down on the need list.

CDNN has some Red Box trade ins.
Only seeing base model 357 and 40’s right now. Recoil seems to have the best deals as of late for CPO but I’m totally content waiting for the right deal and buying used. I’m not dieing to drop $800+ haha

I loved my p226, but recently parted ways with it due to a friend becoming attached to it. I’m starting to look again but can’t decide whether I want to dump my leftover parts and go crazy on my p01 or pick up another p226.

Been shooting the 22X series since the late 80s. Used a M11 in Iraq and later 2 days after retiring carried a 226 in Baghdad. I do prefer the West German guns. SIG announced this weekend that the German plant is closing. So expect those German guns to go up. It has become political hostile to produce guns there. SIG guns will still be made at the NH plant. Sauer been in business since 1751 or so n Germany and SIG was a Swiss company. They combined to make guns in Germany for international trade due to Swiss export laws.

Unfortunately, I think r/gundeals raided the CPOs at recoil last night.
Not surprised. I’ve had my eye on those for a few weeks and 579 + $21 shipping had me “this” close to buying. They kept putting them on sale for 1-3 days then back up. I think I’m gonna hold out for a good deal on a used pistol.

However, I may take you up on your offer to borrow one day since you’re on the way to my friend’s range!

When I was with reconnaissance we carried the (MEU)SOC 1911, which I loved. On a deployment I "traded" it for a 226 one of the SEALs on the detachment carried, for familiarization, etc. I really liked it, it was butter, and a pleasure to shoot. But I preferred the 1911 at the end of the day.

But it was that gun which led me to buy a West German 226 a short time later.

I have a Legion P229 but wanted a P226. I bought a P226 E2 enhanced elite. It has the beaver tail (which i like) and the short reset trigger. It is a great gun. I bought it online from CDNN guns. I believe it got it for right at $800. If you take that gun and run it through the Legion process you get a Legion. Honestly for what you get with a Legion it is a good deal.

I’m also looking for a P226, the SAO Legion. Just hoping to find one locally at a fair price. Really interested in the P210 Target as well but the price and single stack capacity have me on the fence compared to the 226.

Own an FDE Mk25 that has the short reset trigger, you can't go wrong with them.
Standard capacity magazine is 15, but you can get eighteen round magazines that are the same size, or twenty round magazines that stick out an inch below the frame.
If I get another fill size 9mm, itll be another Mk25, not a Legion

I’m actually considering an MK25. Found one new for $839 from a dealer despite the few on forums right now being $900+, which doesn’t make any sense.
I won’t pay a premium for a Legion but I’m trying to justify doing so for a MK25. I’ve always liked them.

Recoil has 229Rs back in stock at $600.

Edit-CPO
I’ve seen some decent 229 deals, but of course the 229 doesn’t really do it for me, I’m set on a 226.
I found a nice TacOps on another forum but the seller is across the country and has almost no feedback so I’m not willing to risk throwing away that money.
