This nation was founded by a group of people who were pushed too far and said, loudly and clearly, “I will not comply”. They were taxed until they could not afford to pay and then their properties were seized by the crown. They were removed from their homes. Told when they could work and when they couldn’t. Certain businesses were allowed to operate carte Blanche and others......not so much. The King’s men were on the take. The tax collectors were on the take. The councilmen and governors were on the take. The sheriffs upheld the law, for those that paid. The elite felt they could act with impunity, and they did. Except for the first paragraph I’m not talking about then, I’m talking about now. The main difference between now and then is that we the people finally had enough and began fighting for the right to be free. Today, in this country, the average, upper-middle class American lives a lifestyle better than a king in the 1700’s. Bums on the street have it better than the lower classes of the same time period. We are too accustomed to the comforts of this time period to realize that we are literally years, a decade at most, from totalitarianism and poverty the likes we haven’t seen here since the mid 1800’s. At what point does our supposed “silent majority” get off its ass and stop being silent? At what point do we say loudly and clearly “I will not comply”? When is enough....enough?
