Lol,, I'm just trying to get through the first one with no hiccups or a DQ,,Hinestly don't care about time/points. I have about 200 dry fire rds so far. Ive put everyone through the same hole:cool:. The Sheild and I are really accurate without real bullets.
_That's_ why you thought you were John Wick. I see now. Carry on!

I sucked but at least I didn't DQ:cool:
Sure wished it lasted longer,,counting down the days to the next one. Got to meet Feildgrade and Amp.
Fieldgrade ( our group SO) did a great job helping me as a new shooter,, big thanks.
I was really good at pasting though.

Seeing Magic Mike live in person, in the wild for the first time after yapping on the forums for five years is like catching a glimpse of the Loch Ness monster.

You did fine for your first match. Stick with it and a year from now you'll be amazed at how much your handgun shooting will improve.

A lot more fun than a indoor range.

Absolutely.
I had lots O fun even though I was nervous as all get out.
Met some good guys and gals and I got lots of help and guidance from folks on my squad, and the RO Patrick was very helpful as well.
Thanks @Amp Mangum and @fieldgrade for a great first match experience. I think you'll be seeing me again.

I think I have videos of 4 stages but I have no idea how to make them available.
Kids will be here later I'm sure they can help me out.
Amazing what one can learn watching yourself shoot!

What were you shooting today?
I shot a Shield 1.0, and a Shield 2.0. I noticed in the previous 2 matches that I was shooting a lot of shots and inch or two above the down zero zone, so I turned the Dawson front fiber sight around, causing it to shoot lower. The points down speak for how that turned out. Mike Jones #1 was the 1.0, and Mike Jones #2 was the 2.0. Also, the trigger was different. I got trigger freeze at least 2 or 3 times with the 2.0...not as smooth as the 1.0 with the Apex kit. I had added an extended mag release on my 1.0, but during the match the inside lip keep catching the feed lips of the mags, and causing mag change delays. I took that right out as soon as I got home. It was a good test. I believe the extra rough grip texture on the 2.0 is invaluable to that gun.

A big thanks to @fieldgrade for the great stages today.
I am but a "young" apprentice working under the master.

What did someone say today while setting up?
"If Amp Mangum designed golf courses they'd be all sand traps."
:D

I think next match we need to take a page from Ricky Harris's training manual.
"Exploit your weaknesses"

My wife wants me too shut up about today,, I'm like a kid at Christmas.
Today was a lot of first for me
First match
First time shooting a sheild.
First time shooting while sitting,
First time shooting from a holster draw with live ammo.
First time seeing moving targets
First time shooting through a vehicle.
First time doing live reloads.( need a mag holder, pockets are slow)
First time shooting targets that where more than 6"inches apart.
First time shooting a steel target. ( really cool)
First time with a timer.
I guess there no way to practice for some of this stuff.

Do you know what I do as soon as I get home and unload the truck after a match?
Check the weather forecast for the match of the following weekend.

I check the classifieds, especially Handguns for Sale, just in case "the one" is out there and available. Some people practice, some people shoot more matches. I think that's misguided. :p

You used to text Landis in the middle of a match if you weren't there and tell him to check what I was shooting because you knew I would get mad and sell it at the end of a match.
He showed me that text during a match. It was pretty funny.

He probably cheated.
I was planning on winning the match but @Amp Mangum told me to hold back because some of you fast guys might quit.
So from here on out I'll stay at the bottom of the pack so y'all won't be intimated,
Im just that kind of guy.
@fieldgrade was worried about me dominating also,, the stage with the SUV,, he told me when the timer started that a had to change a tire first and then run the course.
The one with the couch, he made me lay down and then I had to find the TV remote first,,

Look into dryfire practice!
The best shooters all do this much, much, much more than live fire.

You must buy a timer, too.

Newbie questions for the next match:

Does my holster have to be attached to my belt or can I use a paddle?
Without knowing how many rounds per stage, how many mags should I have?
Can I have 2 mag carriers that carry 2 each, and start with 1 in the pocket to load at the make ready command, for a total of 5 mags?
If I'm shooting SSP division, mags would be loaded to 10 rounds?
I am referencing the rule book and see some of the info, but I want to be absolutely clear.
Think that's all I've got for now.
Thanks

Newbie questions for the next match:

Does my holster have to be attached to my belt or can I use a paddle? You can use a paddle if you have it behind a good belt.
Without knowing how many rounds per stage, how many mags should I have? You only need three total for SSP.
Can I have 2 mag carriers that carry 2 each, and start with 1 in the pocket to load at the make ready command, for a total of 5 mags? For SSP, you load one mag at "load and make ready" that's loaded to 11, and have two on your belt, or pockets loaded 1o each each.
If I'm shooting SSP division, mags would be loaded to 10 rounds? First one 11, the other two 10 each.

What's everybody using??

I asked several experienced RO’s about timers.
Flat Fender (Lucas from Triangle Tactical) recommended the Pocket Pro 2 and I respect his opinion so I went with that. I am happy with it. Big numbers and est tonread and use.

Also checkout Likas’ triangle tactical podcast.

The two main choices are the PACT timer and the Pocket Pro 2. I have both, but prefer the Pocket Pro 2 because you can adjust the volume down, which is nice for indoor dry-fire.

Listening to the TT podcast really inspired me to get out there and give it a go.
And I learned a lot.
