Going there this morning. Anyone know if the one in Charlotte has metal detectors? I don’t care about the other.

I'm not saying this was wise, but I went to a place out of state that had very good security had to walk through a metal detector and then be patted down with the security guard. Well, not patted down but he did look through my little girls backpack. I have my little p32 on me, and I made it through just fine.

An ikea?!

If they put detectors at the doors every belt buckle and keychain would set it off.

Just the thought of going to IKEA makes me shudder. When they first opened we got a $25 free coupon. My wife convinced me to make 2 trips to IKEA, my first and last. I hate that place. Felt like a research mouse in a maze.

The only purpose the food court serves is sustaining those "mice" who can't find their way out. They entered just wanting a blanket or lamp, they leave 6 hours later full of coffee and meatballs and lingonberry jam with sore feet, and empty wallet and some pressed wood shelving that was unbelievably cheaper than the stuff at Thomasville furniture.

I'm one of the strange guys that loves the place. What bothers me is that everywhere I look I see cheap materials and furniture with a short planned obsolescence.

Say what you want, but those IKEA meatballs are the only reason I tag along with the wife, I spend the rest of the trip just saying “no, it’s cheap mass produced disposable crap”, we’ll look else where.

I'd be far more concerned with the surrounding area than the IKEA. The area has gone downhill, but hides behind the facade of new buildings. It's still a crap hole that presents an elevated risk of being mugged in the parking lot or randomly caught up in a protest.

Surely not in that Socialist City... The Socialist City council will keep you safe with all their free money and planning 🤣 The NRA came so it must be a bastion of freedom. 😆

9outof10mms you are so right about that area !

It pains me to say it as that was my old stomping ground...or at least a few miles from it. It WAS a nice and convenient place to live.

When that WalMart opened (near IKEA) it attracted all the miscreants of the area. I've never felt more threatened in a store as when I had to go there one night for a humidifier for one of our (at the time) infant sons. If an armed big ass grumpy looking man can feel threatened, it sure as crap isn't a place for normal societal outings.

All went well and it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Looked at some stuff and enjoyed some time with another couple. Thanks for the quick replies.

How were the meat balls?

i can't tell you the number of times i've set off a metal detector, shown my belt, and been waved through without further scrutiny.

Where?
What's the point of a metal detector on an uncontrolled doorway like they have at Ikea?

a few places, mostly up around detroit.
most guards don't really want to stick their hands down my pants.

Security Theater, like most places.

I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but it was my understanding IKEA furniture is based on a European model of living, which is more mobile/transient/rental based, with less actual home ownership.

I've managed to go through life without setting foot in an Ikea. I suppose that's not likely to change.
