Have ya ever wanted to shoot someone else's target.

Also I can group decent at 25ft and do it pretty quick.
Shooting at 75 it's hard for me to put 10 rds in a 12x16 target. I usauly am at 5-6 out of 10. That's firing a rd about every 2 seconds

Any pointers or just more range time

Please, don't think I am being harsh. Your last sentence is probably your answer. Just more shooting does NOT make you a better shooter. We had a man come here a year or so ago and he was doing EVERYTHING basic to shooting wrong. Today he is a competent carrier.

You made Majic sad,,I'm getting there. I think my biggest problem is I get in a hurry.

75' is fun to toy with, but I wouldn't get all hung up about it. EDC type handguns just aren't built for that, so it's pushing beyond the inherent limits. It ain't you. Yes I know some guys spend mega-time and ammo doing nothing but this stuff. More power to em.
I play at my range out to 100 feet on a 10" gong. The 5" PPQ/9mm does best. Here's how it goes-
POW (stop, light-up a smoke) PING.

I much prefer to run drills at 20 to 30 feet. Holsters, moving, transitioning, right..left, up...down, back..forth.
At least for me, if you wanna humble yourself..do this stuff.

I think I'm might go back today. One of the targets I like to use is a full size with 6 different 4" targets. I'm gonna try to sre how accurate I am at shooting all 6 quickly

I understand your feelings, something similar to what I had five years ago :).

Two things:
1) Take an instructor. even a basic NRA pistol course would help a lot to build a good base under the instructor supervision. There is a lot in the shooting that needs to be demonstrated and checked by a knowledgeable person.

2) Dryfire a lot when an instructor help you to build a right base. for accuracy, there is nothing better and cheaper than everyday dryfire routine.

There a lot of great instructors around, but for a newbie I strongly recommend Trace Armory and John especially. These are guys who helped me to take off five years ago.

I haven't seen John on any local forums lately

Majic, I tell all who come to learn, to shoot as fast as they CAN. Unfortunately, most shoot FASTER than they can. Our goal is to shoot GOOD, you WILL shoot fast when the time comes, have no doubt.

I have a target recognition and shoot/no shoot drill I like. Requires a partner, though. We do this at an outdoor range, from the holster, but it could be adapted to an indoor range from the low ready.

Draw three or four colored shapes on the back of a target. Things like an orange circle, blue triangle, green square.
Start holstered, or at low ready, with your head turned away from the target. Have your partner call out a color/shape combo.
Turn head, locate the color/shape combo, raise weapon, and fire IF that combo exists on the target.
If the combo does not exist, do not fire.
Using my examples above, an orange circle would be fired at, while a red square would not be.
It forces you to process what you see and decide on an action.

When I do this with my nephew, I give him a hard time and tell him he just earned 25 to life every time he fires when he shouldn't.
After all, not every situation is a shoot scenario. Outside of actual force on force training, I find this works for me and a few others I have tried it with.
Nephew is getting better at it. Be averages one misfire about every three or four mags now.

Look on YouTube, type in Ken Hackathorn, Wizard Drill. It requires 5 shots in total, with the longest distance being 10 yards. Do it EXACTLY as he shows it! When you can clean this drill COLD, first time, everytime. Consider yourself a good man to keep company with. You must get a knowledgeable partner to get to where you need to be.
We tell people that if you want to repell out of a window, shooting full auto, with your hair on fire, This AIN'T the place for you. But if you want to go to Walmart or your ATM and know in your heart you will be safe, we can help. Best of all, it's ALL free. We can and do supply everything you will need. All on this Forum are welcome.

Where is this action going on at

Oh gosh, I am getting thicker every day. Battery Oaks is my home. It happens that I have a range right here at my home. I think all that have visited here will tell you what a shooter's paradise it is. All metal reactive targets from 1 yard to 300 yards. 500 pound bench rest table for the 300 yard shooters. Overnight sleeping available in the Battery Oaks Bunk House...once you pass muster.
A couple of years ago we hosted the Special Forces Group from Fort Bragg for demos and a pistol match. Raised over $8,000 for Special Forces Scholarship Fund. We have the best range in the county, but I am prejudiced. Come and see, shoot, and hopefully learn something and teach us something. Old Bear from this forum is coming in for his 3rd or 4th visit this month for a multi day shoot.
If you ever head this way, it would be our pleasure to show you around. We have available everything from .22 short to .50s. Full auto, suppressed, all calibers and most platforms. We love visitors. After a visit, they usually leave with something they didn't know before. Hopefully they leave something to help us help others.
Not sure about doing this but here goes, I hope it is OK. Google B&M Rifles. I am the "B". It's more of what we are about. It shows our 50 yard indoor range. The only one I am aware of in the state.
Hope this tells you a little about us, all are welcome and ALL IS FREE!!!

No,, I was asking about the range you and Geezer use and train. I looked up Battery Oaks but couldn't find anything
Billy is sincere in his invitation. He has a wonderful place and is the perfect example of a southern gentleman. He will welcome you, help you, and teach you. Just make sure that your ego can handle being out-shot by a 70 year old man.

No problem here. At all.
When I raced motorcycles, I always liked following the uber-fast pro guys, and would even ask their permission to do so during practice.
Why? Because I got faster.

sounds great

IMO:
Not sure what you mean by "group decent" at 7 yards. Decent group would be 2" or less.

25 yards (75feet) you should easily be 10/10 on a 12x16 target all day long. 6" would be reasonable expectation. Should be able to pull off head shots at that distance.

These are my expectations with my Glock 19. Not sure what gun you are carrying. But a target gun is going to be easier.

Come with me to my range and I'll have you doing much better very quickly.

Hard front sight focus, no anticipation, and pull trigger straight to the rear. Easy peasy.

I'd say Billy's offer is looking pretty dang good!

Well, I'm suitably impressed. And such a gracious offer. I knew a Billy B once. He was a fishing guide down at Santee-Cooper, worked with the Lyon's Den out of the Diversion Canal. Maybe that was Billy Brunson? SSK and JD Jones does your work? I've often wondered how JD feels about the .300 Blackout and how it's a copy of his .300 Whisper. It's taken off without a mention of JD Jones' hard work developing it. I experimented with the Whisper before anyone knew what it was.

JD has visited with us twice here at the B&M HQ. A wonderful old gentleman. Let there be no doubt, the 300 Blackout IS the .300 Whisper. So much in life is timing. No George, last name is not Brunson, but I do love fish...fried on a plate.

Geezer is my friend.

I will have you know, if a man, or rabid woman angry that I complimented her unibrow, happened to be attacking me, and had me pinned down, I have a 50% chance of shooting the assailant, 50% chance of shooting myself, and one-hundred percent reason to remember the name.

Its not just about shooting more. For me it took rethinking and reworking how I was gripping the gun, seeing the target and pressing the trigger. Those three things and breaking them down to barebones, practical and context driven training have helped me be more accurate and faster. Hope this helps. We cover it in detail on our YouTube Channel. @Majicmike
